I picked up a new Remington xr-100 in .204 Ruger and was wondering if anyone had any loads that worked good in this rifle. I threw together some 32gr noslers with H4895 and had no luck. The best group was around 2 inches. One other thing I noticed was that on the fired cases the neck diameter is so tight that I can't even push a bullet in by hand. The fired cases measure .002 over loaded rounds. Would this be causing a problem? I was using remington brass.

What was your over all length on your loaded ammo? How many grains of powder were you using? I have been using Varget in my loads with 40 gr Noslers, with great success, 27 grains. The Nosler manual suggests that IMR 4198 to be the most accurate powder they tested.
I also used Varget for the new 26 Barnes bullet 26.5 gr was my best grouping load at 100 meters. FS

OAL was 2.34. I started at 27gr and went to 28.5gr. The groups seemed to open up more with the higher charge. The worst groups were almost 4 inches at 100 yards.

Have you tried factory loads to see if they have the same results on group and after shot neck tension?

If factory shoots well and the necks, after firing, are looser than your handloads then I would look at the necks on your handloaded brass. They may be overly thick and need turning.

Measure the 2 and see what the difference is.

I haven't tried any factory loads yet. If factory shoots well then at least I'll know that it's my reloads that are the problem and not something with the rifle or scope.
