A local gunshop has one in .204R. Looks good. Haven't read any bad reviews on it, just looking for your opinions.
This gunshop runs $100-250.00 hot on all of its prices. If I remember right, he's asking around $1200.00 dollars for it. Thinking about springing for it since it is discontinued.
Any thoughts?
I would really like a Savage LRPV, but they don't seem to ever make it to Canada, especially down where I live...

I have an XR in 204. Very accurate gun. I wouldn`t think twice about buying one if i were you, but the price he is asking is about $200+ over priced.
SIR has them listed for $1,014.99. You might be able to find one even cheaper than that if you look.

Frontier firearms has one listed in there used section as almost new with a Elite scope on it for less than that check them out. I think he has it in the EE too.

I have one in .204. It's in the process of getting a scope on it. It's a very neat rifle. The only thing is the trigger on mine has a lot of creep. I'll have to get that taken care of.

One thing I'm dealing with right now though are Leupold bases. The recommendation in their books aren't correct. A couple people have found that they actually put strain on the scope. I'm currently trying to find a solution and might just go with a tactical rail. I know of a few people that took their rifles in and had these bases mounted, and no one bothered to mention that they flex your scope since they don't allign perfectly.

If you want it to keep as a stock gun, they're nice, but it's overpriced. They make a good platform to build upon and customize; the actions are harder to find accessories for than the 700, such as stocks, bases etc. I have three of them but they are all just shadows of their original livery.

I'd say for the money, buy a Savage ......and I'm a confirmed Remington fan.

Which Savage are you liking? I don't really want to go the build up route of a Stevens (stock, barrel etc.). I just want to buy a good gun and only have to add a scope replace the trigger if need be.

Check out a Savage before you buy one. It may be the best bang for the buck in terms of shooting but you might not like it. I've looked at a few and I really wanted to like them. However they just aren't for me.

Other options to consider are the Remington VSSF II. I personally really like the HS stock, it's stainless, has a fluted 26 inch bull barrel and should be very good right out of the box. You really can't go wrong with a Remington action. Another contender is the CZ 527 Kevlar in .204. I'm currently looking into getting one of these.

Here's another suggestion. It's a bit more money but they are very nice rifles. The Kimber 84M varmint or Pro-varmint are both available in .204. Unfortunately the SVT is only available in .223 and .22. otherwise I would definately have bought one in .204. The triggers on these are very good and can be adjusted to a lower weight. No creep at all in my SVT .22. It's very crisp. The stock on the SVT I love for target shooting. It handles off hand really nice too. Short and handy. The barrels come free floated, and the receiver is already bedded.

For what you're getting the $1220 price tag isn't unreasonable. Plus I like the three tang safety aka Mauser/Winchester Model 70 design. Just another option to consider. One other advantage it's not a Savage or a Remington. Sometimes it's nice to have something different.

I just shot an XR100 today in .204 ruger. I was impressed. We were getting 1/2 groups with some 32 grain hornadys and varget and 4198. It has a Nikon 6-18 on top with fine crosshairs and a dot. If it was mine I would lose the dot and go up in magnification. It was the first time the rifle has been shot and we only have 50 cases so next session we move to 200 yds. I would by one if i didn't have two 700VS's. I just read the post about the scope mounts. We used Leupold bases and Burris insert rings. They work fine.

Double check those mounts and check for flex in the scope. It'll work fine but there have been three cases that I know of where the scope is put under flexion. Will it work fine in 3 years? Plus how good is that for those optics?
It will functionally work and most won't even notice. For me though, I know it's a possible problem.

I may be going with a rail. I'm not sure yet, I have a gunsmith looking at solutions. By the way this information about the bases was from a gunsmith (Yes they do have those mounts in and it would have been faster and cheaper for them to just sell them to me, and mount them without saying anything).

Xr 100

This one started out life as a .204 Ruger, got the action blueprinted, added a sako extractor, a Kelbly trigger (4oz) a MacLennan Barrell in 6 BR a warne 20 moa rail and then a Night Force 42X NXS Scope,,,,,,,,,,, o.k. well the stock is origional, except where we removed a bit to get the barrell in,,,,, kinda,, sort of.....

With regards to the bases. I thought I recalled reading something about this two years ago, turn out this was a topic back then. The Leupold book being referred to was about a year or two old. They have since revised their recomendation from the XP-100 pistol bases which did cause problems to the Remington Model 7 bases (Note: not the 700). I remember researching this just after I bought my XR-100 but it's been a while.

As I recall the forum discussions also suggested the model 7 bases.
This is what I'll be going with.

Obtunded. Impressive XR-100 / Semi custom you have there.

The XR 100 has two screw holes on the back part of the action whereas the XP has 1. The XP bases line up ok and work fine. I have a few XR's with XP bases and they work all work great. It is a really short action and it is well engineered. Bases from the 600 and model 7 will work as well if you need to two rear screws to keep you from having an infarct.

From the reading I've been doing lately, it seems most are going with a Model seven base instead of the XP-100 bases or model 700SA.

I just ordered 2 - 20moa 1 piece Farrel Bases from Sinclair for my XR actions. Cheaper at Sinclair than right from Farrel?!?!?! Go Figure...

I ended up going with the Model seven Talley one piece rings (ring/base in one). They look great and seem to work well.

I took mine out shooting today. There was a fair bit of wind but it still shot fairly well. Mine doesn't like the 40 grain or 45 grain .204 Hornady ammo. But that wasn't a surprise. 32 grain seems to shoot fairly well.

There is still room for improvement though. I'm actually not that happy with the trigger on mine. I may be looking at swapping it out, and having the action bedded. Then reloading and lots of practice. :D

No to Burris. I went with the Talley rings/base for the Model Seven. Looks good and works well. No flex or other issues at all.
