IIRC, XS Sights never applied to US State Dept for their exporter's permit, as a result, no legal export of their products anymore. The Shooting Edge used to carry their product, but no more. I don't know if things have changed in the past year or so. This was what I learned when I went looking for another set of tactical shotgun sights last year.

Its really wide man! Used to have this on my 18". Kept the rear but swapped the front for a Smith. Works well for getting on target quickly but have no doubt the stock GI or NM sight are a touch more accurate. The XS is fun though.

I had one on my full length M14S for the better part of a year but recently decided to swap back to the stock setup. A few thoughts,

- Comes with a replacement aperture that is wider (double) than the stock one. Fits the Norc setup perfectly and the elevation adjustments are solid.
- Very fast target acquisition but due to the inherent nature of the front sight (vial plus white stripe) and the wider rear aperture these are not for precision shooting. 250m gong hits in dusk are a hoot tho!
- Low light and dark background visibility of the front sight is better, but sight alignment is still an issue as the rear aperture does not have tritium inserts and is very hard to see in dim lighting (or no light for that matter).
- The tritium insert, while not as precise as a red dot, is just the right brightness - bright enough to stand out during the day and not too bright as to overpower the eyes at night.

In short, I found these sights are really good for reflex shooting at reasonable ranges, along the lines of a QCB scenario in relatively low (dusk/ dawn) or limited (scattered lighting) light but are not suited to any sort of precision work. YMMV.

I'm building a M14 in .243 calibre and would like to try the front HOODED site and rear to do some hunting for tuktu(caribou) as you can get right up close to them and no need for a scope/scopemount.

The XS sights will work ok at shorter ranges (read non-precision / competition). I shot a friend's full length Nork with the XS sights. It was great fun & it is certainly more visible in lower light but as mentioned it is too wide for precision shooting at any kind of distance. He has since switched back to a NM front sight.

However, if your primary intention is as a hunting rifle shooting 200m or less at big game then you should be good to go with it.

Regards,

Have to ask them via calling.

Ok thanks for the info/link.

I like the hooded idea as it's different and I'm thinking it would make for faster acquisition(is that a word?) of the tuktu I'm about to shoot ... and you can get up and close to them. I'm thinking of this set up with irons for my 243 M14 build.

I agree..................close range and low light they are great and quick to pick up........for distance/precision type shooting they leave a lot to be desired........the blade is too wide...........

You really want 1 eh...

I really like the idea of front and rear set yes ... as I can get up super close to Tuktu(caribou) on the land to shoot with irons ... but really I want to use this 243 M14 build for seal hunting on the boat ... shooting with irons is alot easier than with a scope as you're constantly moving. Yeah I really want a set. HAHA. Even posted in the EE and asked a few guys on another M14 forum. :D
