Anyone here try the front sight base clamp on assembly from Yankee Hill for their M14 specific Phantom flash suppressor?

Does it fit on typical flash hiders as well or just the one made specifically for screwing onto the M14(I noticed that those flash hiders have an extension with smaller diameter which the sight base also clamps to)

I'm looking into different front sight options for chopped M14s aside from suprathepeg's upcoming product, which will extend the length by 3/4" or so.

GLFS are ok but cleaning the gas assembly may mean re-zeroing requirement at times.

YEP ....
I've got something similar in the works ....
sized to fit the barrel of a NORC @ 18",
and using TWO clamp screws.

My original hand made prototype has made the rounds of a few gun smith shops, and no one wanted to make these up for me,
so I'm in discussion with a local NON gunsmith/ CNC shop to make some up.

PS: don't hold your breath waiting for any gun stuff from me ...
I'm shopping around for a sail boat right now, and the gun stuff is all on the back burner.

Hey Laz,

I recall you mentioning making up those prototypes in PMs a long while ago(over a year). Hahaha...yeah don't worry, I didn't hold my breath. :p :D

One thing I do think is of particular note is that your design would clamp the barrel itself, which we know can vary quite a bit for Norc barrels and completely different from USGI and other US barrels.

The Yankee Hill type clamps onto the end of the flash suppressor. The only question is whether it will only fit the Yankee Hill product or can secure tightly to others.

Winz,
good point about where the YHM Front sight clamps on to.

If you make the rebated shoulder cut the right diameter to match the YHM flash hider, and leave enough clearance inside the sight base hole, why then it should clamp tightly to the flash hider and leave the barrel completely untouched.

Great idea in theory ... as long as the Flash hider is on TIGHT!! This way, you can use the flashider ANYWHERE and barrel diameter OD variations do not enter into the equation.

My solution for the Norc was to make the slotted cut in the front sight base wide enough that the .010" variation I've noticed in NORC barrel OD @ the 18 3/4" cutoff point would not matter.

But now you've got me thinking.
