Ive been reading posts on building an AR type configuration rifle,I dont care for Nothing fancy.

I never cared for the C-7 but have a good supply of 5.56 ammo and mags
and wouldnt mind one for plinking.


Where do I start? as in the cheapest way, Ill be taking my time say over a year to complete the project.

Building it piece by piece is an idea.

Buy a stripped lower, parts kit, stock, decide on an upper etc.

You can always swap uppers.

Keep an eye out on the exchange forums here. Armseast also has a selection of fine AR stuff. There are some nice tutorials on ar15.com for putting all the pieces together (dont forget to check out their exchange forums too).

If you want a shorty, might as well get the 14.5" barrel, no point of getting a 16" which was just a way to pull off the M4 appearance while complying with US laws. 16" carbines look like turds to me, neither a "Commando" nor "Standard". Check with Wolverine Supplies for the barrelled upper.

I recently bought another eagle arms lower with fixed stock for 450. It wasn't the best price but I needed a quick fix.

Lowers usually run $229-$300 (RRA, stag, Eagle) ,parts kits are around $100 depending who you buy from. Stocks range a bit more depending on what you want.
