Year of Manu for Colt Python using serial#

I cannot find data for the year of manufacture for my Colt Python
serial # KT 8###. Tables up to 1985 do not use this "KT" prefix
Thanks

Yeah I even checked the DOB thread on the Colt Forum. It onlys goes up to 1985 as well. Are you sure that the serial number is KT and maybe not K7? The reason I mention that is because the cert. for my Diamondback says it starts with an '5' when in reality it's really an 'S'.

Where are you reading the serial # from(it is usually found on the inside on the frame, opposite the yolk)?.Also, your serial number seems very short. Is it a stainless /blued etc.Pictures will help.

krd, your KT 8### serialize Python was manuf. in 1992. Is it the Royal blue, brushed stainless or bright stainless finish?

Best thing to do if you want to know the manufacture date of any Colt's is to contact the Colt Archive Services directly at: 1-800-962-COLT (2658) and talk to Beverly Haynes - Colt Historian at ext: 1391 or Joe Canali - Historical Research Sales Coordinator - ext: 1343.

One easy way to tell if a Python was made before or after 1991, is to see if the front sight is pinned with one or two pins.

If it has one pin, it is post 1991 and the barrel has DIFFERENT threads than the earlier guns. The earlier guns had 2 pins holding the front sight.

Yep, SandRoad's got it right. Pre-1991 Pythons had two pins holding the front sight and post-1991 had only one.
