Yellow Jacket Rifle. Help!?

Hey, (Have to be quick with this message.)

My Remington Yellow Jacket .22 Rifle jams and misfires when I use those 30 round plastic banana magazines. Also, with the 10 round rotary magazine it came with it doesn't jam but it does misfire sometimes. Tried several types of ammunition. What might be wrong?
 
Well, it's a 597 to start with.

.22LR ammo isn't the most reliable to begin with. I've had bricks where 10% were misfires.

As for the jamming...well...high cap mags in .22 are known for that.

Other then that, I have nothing to add.
 
597 didn't come with a rotary 10 round magazine. I would guess an FTF (fail to fire) problem is either poor ammo, a dirty firing pin or possibly a hammer that is not cocking due to the action not being cycled fully the previous shot.

Clean the rifle thoroughly and adjust the guide rods so they can still spin with your fingers but have slight drag on them.

Then, fire again with cci mini mags and see how it works. 30 round mags are hit and miss unfortunately (no pun intended), I had some that worked and others that were prone to jamming.
 
597's are known for sticky firing pin due to left-over of factory crude in the assembly. Take it apart and clean it nicely, drop a few drops of grease remover of some kind into firing pin channel. Mine (yellow jacket as well) wouldn't fire once untill I got it all cleaned. Aftermarket hi-cap magazines were beaten to death here already.

I find it remarkable that with all of the information available at ones finger tips, that very few people do any kind of research on rifles they want to buy. And when said rifle turns out to be the POS the rest of the world already knows, they seem so surprised. FS
