Yes I am Colt-Crazy! UPDATE! New Pics. (crappy)

A good Colt pistol is a far better investment then one of those plastic pistols. Tactical tupperware should only used by children under the age of 10 years of age.

it's inevitable. every time there is a 1911 thread, someone will try their hardest to to turn it into a X vs. Y thread instead of just enjoying it for what it's worth. you are the number one reason i don't own a 1911, you represent the model poorly.

define investment: do you mean monetary and pretty to look at? or do you mean rock-solid reliable in case you need it?

Count me in..... have been shooting this ugly thing since early 1995.... it's literally got thousands of rounds down the pipe... still waiting for the first fail to feed, fire, extract or eject....

Meh, I've never had any failures with any of the semi-auto pistols I currently own (Sig, HK, and BHP). Now that I think about it, I've never had any failures with my old Colt 1991 either. In fact, the only semi-auto that ever gave me trouble was CZ SP-01.

It gets kinda annoying when Austrian tupperware enthusiasts keep pushing the "Glock works" argument, as if pistols form other reputable gunmakers didn't work.

I think this thread has a good deal of Colt 1911 lovers who also love their Glocks.
No one is knocking any other semi-auto as far as I can see but if you've never had a finicky Colt 1911 you're lucky. I've had enough that I would NEVER trust my life to one unless I had no other choice.
And I still love them!

I own a 1991A1 in stainless steel. I have also shot a friend's Glock 17.
And although it would not be my first pick, and personally it felt strange & weird in my hand: I shot that Glock very well considering it was my first time using it.

This Austrian pistol has my grudging respect.
(PS: the only 9mm I plan to ever own, would be the Sterling Police Carbine)

Oh I know that there's no shortage of finicky 1911s. I'm yet to shoot a Para Ordnance that isn't a jamomatic and there are other 1911 makers out there whose guns are not much better.

I had an AMT Hardballer, and it was very finicky. Some-days it was sweet as pie, other days, it would toss rounds into split groups, for no good reason!

I kept my standard sized Colt, sold the AMT, and never looked back...

You'll notice I never said, indicated or even implied that pistols from other reputable gunmakers didn't work. Buy/shoot/use whatever floats your boat. I have pistols other than 1911's & Glocks, too. Geez, even a pair of BHP's...

My point was/is that while I love my Colts & 1911's I also have respect for the Glock. And I have confidence in the particular one I've been shooting regularly since 1995 with no issues.

If you've run 30,000 + rounds thru any of your pistols mentioned above with no issue then I could see how you'd have confidence in them, too... ;) :D

People are so touchy about their pistols. I'm am a gun nut therefore I like variety of different guns yet my favorite are 1911's and Glocks.

Go out, shoot a lot, buy what you like and enjoy this hobby.

Now that we completely hi-jacked this thread apologies to the OP.

Fair enough. My comment wasn't directed at you specifically but more at the "should have bought a Glock", "Glock Perfection", "you can throw a Glock off a plane and then sell it as NIB" fanboy crowd. Glocks are decent guns, nothing really wrong with them (save for the occasional kaboom :D), but they are no more reliable than other quality pistols from my experience.

Nine times out of ten, "problems" with "finicky" 1911s can be traced directly back to cheap, poorly made magazines. I dunno why guys will drop 1K+ on a pistol and then try and find the cheapest mags they possibly can to stuff up their magwell???

I love 1911s and like SIGs, Glocks, etc...but I'd have no problem staking my life on any of my 1911s. I think much of the problem and trepidation comes from users who simply haven't been instructed in the proper manual of arms for the 1911. In that respect, I can see why the "simplified" operation of the Glock is appealing.

Nice find BTW Pat. A 9mm Commander is on my want list to go with the .38 Super I picked up last year. :)
