Why don't we just call them defence rifles? .....then everything would be ok.

4th paragraph talks of transportation, not acquisition.
If a rifle Must have full auto capability to be an assault rifle, then what was the FNC1A1 that I carried around in the '70's???
I'm sure you say that to all of the ladies![]()
.
Yes, I own assault rifles. What of it?
Don't really see this as trolling. I thought it was well thought and well written. I think it's gotten to the point that what label is placed on a type of firearm is irrelevant if the person your trying to have a discussion with them about is never going to see it as anything other than a scary black rifle that was originally designed for a military purpose. Whether or not it has been "civilianized" for sporting purposes is never going to matter in the eyes of someone who doesn't think they should be in the hands of the public.
JMO though...
The defining characteristic of an assault rifle is the happy fun setting on the selector. You do not own assault rifles. Technical accuracy and the use of accurate technology is not playing semantic games; the ones playing semantic games are the antis with their attempts to confuse people into thinking civilian semiautomatic sporting rifles are assault rifles.
Attempts which you're actually helping. Swift.
Sorry, must disagree, 'sporting rifle' just like 'assault rifle' do not exist in terminology....semi-auto do. We are still trying to confuse those who do not know better.
IF I have 10 5 round magazines and bob has 1 50 round magazine how many rounds do they each have?
IF blaxsun is a troll and Stevo was knight who ends up marring Fiona?
I beg to differ. "assault rifle" is a widely-accepted technical term: it means a rifle chambered in an intermediate-powered round, that is fed from a box magazine, and is select-fire. Google it.

As for my semi-autos, I use them for hunting, competition, and recreation; in other words, the very definition of sporting. They're certainly not assault rifles in the technical sense, and it's semantically inaccurate to call them "assault rifles" when they're intended and used only for sporting purposes. Modern? Well that refers to both their designs (all of my semis are 1950's designs, much more modern than other sporting rifle action types like break actions and lever guns) and their cosmetic appearance.
IF a gun is a machine how does it obatain human charistics?
IF a assualt gun is not used in an assualt is it not still just a gun?
WHAT makes a 50 muzzle loader any more lethal than a 223 semi-auto if one shot is fired?
IF I have 10 5 round magazines and bob has 1 50 round magazine how many rounds do they each have?

Exactly...I'm with Blaxsun on this one...and no he wasn't trolling and his Original Post makes a lot of sense...Once you drop the argument about the LABEL then you can get on to teaching the difference...And that is the point that Blaxsun was making in my opinion.whats an assault rifle? other than a media term for anything with a pistol grip.![]()
