Here you go this is my 2cents

get a stevens 200 in your caliber of choice if you are only hunting deer then a .243 would be great if you want to go after moose, bear or elk then the .270 would be the smallest I would go. If you plan on hunting deer more then moose then the .270 is great if you plan on hunting moose, bear and elk more then deer then I say a .300win mag would be the best.

now for a scope the bushnell elite 3200 series has always been good to me I have 5 of them in various powers.

I have a model 11 in .308 ( has sights ) I put a low end bushnell on it and have been very happy with it . They are light and nice to carry but can kick a little .

well i tink this is out of the picture now. people in my area r starting to ssell there old ones. im going to look at a older browning toped with a leopold. he only want 650 fo rthe gun/scope or 550 for the gun. does this seem reasonable? (of coarse i havent seen it yet but it sound like a dec. price. its a 30-06 bolt. he could only get 2" groups at 100 but he was using factory ammo. and only a box and a half scince he got it. it was used when he got it. he doesnt know how old it is.

Depends, is it an A-Bolt?
2 inch groups using factory shells? What kind of shells, Cdn Tire specials?
Too many variables.
Overall, if it is an A-Bolt, they generally shoot well with the right load. Only draw back for some is the magazine system, you either like it or don't.

keep in mind that just because the guy only got 2" groups it doesnt mean that thats all the rifle is capable of.
shooter skill plays a big factor, bedding, etc. just trying different factory loads helps too.

he is a very good shot. he only shot a box and a half thru. so i will need to buy a bunch different factor ammo

I have a rem 700 and with federal ammo I get 3.5 inch groups at a 100 yards, with wichester super X and remington core-locks I get 1" groups. So it could be the ammo he is using....
