Over the past few months, i've been considering making an 858 dragunov copy. Curtton's famous PSL version is the one I will be trying to make.
It will consist of:

-Cz 858 Tactial 2
-Custom maple handguards
-Custom machined SVD style flash hider/muzzle break
-Custom rail mount plate (no receiver mods)
-Ak47 Dragunov style stock from Sksman
-POSP 6x42D scope from Eastwave (Item #0415)
-Side rail mount for SKS, SVD from Eastwave (Item #0703)

All the parts have been ordered, and so far I've made the maple handguards, the mount plate, and the SVD style flashhider/break. I will be modifying the PSL stock to fit the 858, and I will be reshaping the grip portion for comfort.
Here are some pics of my progress.

Thanks, I made the bottom in two pieces because I didn't have the right size wood to make it from one piece. That crack on the upper hand guard was from the piece slipping out of the 3-jaw chuck on my lathe and landing on the floor. I've filled it with glue and it doesn't affect the strength. If I could have found a pair of wooden ones for sale, would have just bought them instead.

Your welcome my friend!!

Gun Mike,
Will the mount plate that you made, end up putting the scope rail too far to the left, so the scope won't be directly in line with the rifle? You're gonna attach the "side rail mount" to your homemade mount plate right?
One like this?

Yes, to my knowledge it will mount the scope to the left of the rifles centre line. I have been reading the manual for the POSP 6x42 scope and it adresses the centre line issue. However, it's very difficult to understand the russian-english translation. I found a pdf file about the PSO scope, and it explains the issue more clearly http://dragunov.net/manuals.html (PSO scope manual)

The rail will be held to the mount with machine screws probably #10-24tpi.
I will be using this style rail as Eastwave recomends it for POSP 6x42D

mike, you have many talents , you can work with metal as well as wood .

question , how do you stop the flash hider from turning ? did you remove the lock from the front sight?

Thank you Curtton,
I have two ideas for preventing the flash hider from rotating, I will either use red locktite, or I'll be machining a little grove for the locking pin to sit in. The pin is still there, its just pushed all the way in.
I'm not sure which to use. I will probably get the barrel pretty hot from shooting, so im wondering if the locktite will melt or burn off at those temps.
I dont really want to use the locking pin to hold the hider in place, because it isnt a snug fit (quite a bit of "wiggle" in that pin).

Go to Home Depot and get the "yellow plumber's tape" will take care of the slop and make it nice and tight even if you do shoot 3 to 5 hundread rounds threw it.

Update

My Dragunov style AK stock came in the mail last week, After a few days of tinkering around, I've finally got the thing mounted on my gun. I had to extend the but pad do to the short length of pull. Made a L bracket out of sheet metal. I had to glue a piece of 3/16" cherry the upper part of the handguard and taper it down a bit, so i could get the cheak rest low enough to still use my irons. I will be staining my front handguards to match the dragunov stock. Also the magazine in the picture is a cut down 5/30 rounder.

Sorry but we cain't see your picts

Small update

Got around to re-shaping the grip area of the stock, sanded down, and sprayed with semi-gloss polyurethane. A few more coats and it will be finished. The hand guards are still in the process of staining. Samples show good results with Minwax Gunstock 231 oil stain and oil based stain conditioner. First samples were blotchy, then I tried using conditioner and the stain is much more even. I think about 2 coats should do it. I will post pics of the hand guards when they are finished.

I have been thinking about the bore diameter of my flash hider. I drilled out the bore to 8mm. Now i'm not sure if that it large enough. I don't want any problems with bullet strikes so I dont mind going larger. Out of curiosity, what are the bore diameters on manufactured breaks?
Do you guys think I should enlarge the break bore?
Also out of curiosity, what is the bore for the FN FAL flash hider?

thanks,
mike

gun_mike if you use an fn fal flash hider you won't have to bore it out at all. the size would be perfect but the thread would be needed. Now I have been thinking about welding the thread protector that we get with the rilfe to a fn fal flash hidder but I can't seem to find them any were to try this.
Also here is your pic that you tried to post.
