On the other hand, was`nt TC`s Pro Hunter equipped with a 28`` bbl instead of the 26`` to fully benefit 150gr charges, in that they allow for complete burn of powder/pellets?
 
I believe that this particular is designed around IMR 4350.

Shouldn't you be studying? - Get to work SLACKER.

SMI makes a smokeless barrel for the Encore. I have my Savage up to 2650 fps with 72 grains of H4198, but am hunting with 42 grains of SR4759 and a 300 gr SST for now. The 4198 load needs a little tweaking, and I ran out of time.

Are you using ballistic bridges with your sabots? I've managed to get 2,500fps with Pyrodex and 200 grain SSTs but performance was pretty marginal with sabots alone....it was better with the ballistic bridges but sabots are most definitely the weak link in any high performance load.

No this is with the bare sabots. H4198 might benefit from a basewad, ignition pressures are a bit low. I knurled TMZs up .001 for ignition and accuracy in the provided sabots, SSTs worked fine with MMP '12s, the provided '24s are under sized for my barrel and smokeless.
 
The biggest issue I've seen with sabots and high speed loads is actually blowing holes righ through the bottom. Obviously the escaping gas leads to some very erratic groups. A ballistic bridge seems the only solution but it makes it a pain to load. Never had any troubles sub 2,200 fps but accuracy can be a fleeting thing after that. Most guys that shoot smokeless talk more about speed than accuracy and I blame sabots for that.
 
I'm all about the accuracy myself and I've never had any issues with Harvester EZ Load sabots (which are what I use mainly with my SST's) but I did however have my groups open up when I tried the Harvester Crush-Rib sabots. I was using a 150gr charge of T7.
I have'nt chronied these loads yet btu I'm sure I well over 2000fps @ muzzle.

There probably is'nt a real need for 150gr charges, 100gr (or less) will do the job. I lke the advantage beyond 100yds with 150gr charge and since I use the Nikon Omega scope it and the charge work together.

I really enjoy the long-range aspect of muzzleloading and have spent a lot of time working up 300 yard loads and have harvested animals at those ranges. Now before the buckskin crowd starts bellyaching here, I do 99% of my muzzleloader hunting during regular rifle seasons but I just get a lot of pleasure from seeing how far a person can ethically hunt with a muzzleloader. With that comes the need for larger powder charges so for me........speed is a must.

Exactly...so why do we get crapped on by so many "traditional" BP guys. :(

Maybe My TC Encore is more "traditional" compared to their sidelocks. :)
