So to keep things even, as requested every landowner gripe will be coupled with a hunting story. This one's for you Trev.

Some background, there is this big slough that we shot on opening day. On the edge or a barley field. Lots of puddle ducks.

Last year we had permission from the guy who owns the north end. We called him up this year and he said he had trouble with some hunters (not us) last year and would not allow hunting on his land this year.

Disappointing but fair enough. No problem.

This slough stretches into a large barley field, we got permission from the owner of the field and hunted there opening day (Last Tuesday) with no problems. Shooting started at legal time 6:30ish. Just as we finished and had limited out on widgeon and gadwall, wave upon wave of mallards came in. So we made note of the time and decided to come back another day and hold off until they came in.

We went back this morning, and at about 7:30 they came like we thought they would. But a few minutes after the shooting started a pickup truck came roaring through the barley field (the one we had permission). It's the land owner from the next quarter over. He parks and starts blasting his horn, flashing his lights, and yelling, calling us fu*king pr**ks. Starts driving around and around the edge of the slough honking his horn to scare off the ducks.

I guess we woke him up even though his house if a half mile off, over a hill, past some trees and we didn't shoot until 7:30ish

So, he came onto his neighbours land without an invitation and was interfering with a hunt in progress. (illegal) Not to mention being a real jackass.

If he would not have been so rude on the phone when we had called him last week and had given us permission to hunt his side, then we would have called him about this morning. If he said no shooting early Sunday, then we would have respected his wishes even while not on his land. We don't want to make enemies out of the local farmers. But when we called he had been rude on the phone despite a previous good experience with us.

So I guess karma is a #####. ;)

We still shot our limit of 32 ducks, mostly mallards and got 2 geese but being a bone head I forgot the camera.

This may surprise you to hear ME say this, but, did you call the CO's?

Any "thou shalt not mess with a legal hunt" stuff on the books out there.

As much as I figure a landowner has the right to behave in any way they feel, on and about their own place, that still does not allow them to #### with the guys that are legally hunting.

No need to press charges or nothin' but if the CO's had a quiet talk.... If you were so inclined...

Right after the rules hit the books in SK, a co-worker actually ended up getting a written apology from teh guy that was disturbing his hunts (repeatedly!). That was one of the local CO's. Talk about crow with no ketchup.
The CO checked this guy's license multiple times, by driving up to his stand site. Same CO, same guy, same place, several times a week, until a stop was put to it.

Works both ways. Don't have to let guys on what's yours, but cannot mess with the guys that are on what's not yours.

Cheers
Trev
