Hi All,

I have had this SKS for a short bit, thoroughly cleaned it free of all Cosmoline, even sonic cleaned key parts in Naptha.
It is as clean as it can get.
When the fireing pin was apart I found a burr on the machineing where the cross lock pin went, dressed it with a file and it's smooth.
It seems that no matter what I do, I cannot get this thing to stop slam fireing.

I have seen many people recommend Murry's fireing pin and seen comments that both claim it works and claim it's junk.

Anyone here tried it, is it worth spending the $50 on a sub $200 gun to make it usable?

Now before an armchair smith gets all uppity and clams the fireing pin is not clean enough inside and I missed some cosmo...

Did you notice if the firing pin is out(extended) when your bolt is back in the receiver?

Might not be a firing pin issue.

What ammo are you firing in it? Commercial and reloads may slamfire because of soft primers. Real milsurp ammo should not slamfire as it has a harder primer cup. Could also be a issue with the trigger group. Try reading the stickies! Lots of good info there.

I am using Russian Milsurp.
I have been through all of the stickies and at this time don't recall anything in there about the Trigger group being able to cause this due to this or that, but I will re read them anyway.
No Mods have been done to the gun, she is stock.
It's not Slam fire every time, but almost.
Shoot 1, slam 2, slam 2.
Reload
Slam 3, shoot 1, shoot 1
Reload...etc.

Have had no problems with my SKS except when I first got it it was having trouble cycling but after I lubed the rails it was fine and hasn't been a problem since. If I were to be having any problems with the gun for example slam firing I'd have no problem shelling out the $50 for the Murrays pin if it meant that I would have a safe reliable rifle to shoot. Just because a rifle costs merely $200 doesn't mean it's not worth a whole lot more. I would say my SKS is made with more care/craftmanship and quality than my VZ58 which cost 4x as much. There's a whole lot of value in these surplus rifles.

Everything is golden with the fireing pin, however I have looked into the sear and it is set very negative (should be positive).
Being I didn't spend too much on this and it would cost more to give it to a smith. I tackled it myself to corrrect.
I have managed to go from extreme negative to neutral. I will try it out this weekend to see if it was enough.
I don't want to remove too much metal to quick.

FYI to any SKS owners that have a sear problem... Do not tackle the issue yourself unless you are confident in your abilities.
A lot can go wrong and you can ruin or even worse make your SKS unsafe to use.

I will report back after the weekend.

Ammo is good it could be the sear, you get positive, neutral and negative engagement. There should be info on how to check/correct that.

Well, I am 99.999 percent sure I have solved the issue and it is my own dam fault.....

Many Months ago my wife and I purchased the SKS for her and she is not a strong girl and was having problems with the strong spring on the mag release so I swapped it out with a little lighter one so she didn't hurt her finger.
While waiting for a Range trip I had the SKS Sear set from negative to neutral but I didn't want to go much further and ruin it so I stopped and picked up another SKS Trigger group.
A good part of the day while I was driving around I was playing with the trigger group in one hand, (flexin this spring, that spring making sure not to pinch my fingers) It seemed to work like a stress ball LOL.
Then is came to me.... DAM that mag release is quite a bit stronger than the one I have at home........... Oh F****
Those of you that already know, yes that spring is dual pupose and also reseats the Sear into place and if the spring is not strong enough it won't seat fast enough.

Needless to say, now that I have a spare trigger group I had no reservations about tackling the other to make it positive, I now have it working Positive and a smooth pull.
I still want to recheck it at the range but I am sure it will be perfect.

Range test complete, 100% corrected with no fails and 270 rounds through

Got the SKS hot enough to melt some of the cosmo out of the wood LOL.
Time for a good cleaning.

My firing pin retaining pin works itself loose every time I take it out. It's just a hair, but it's enough to bind on the firing pin and cause a slamfire. I think that this problem is often blamed on a dirty firing pin when it is not.
