We went out this am as I saw about 4 coyotes meandering in the quarter north of us. Probably 800y out. Set up and called one out of the valley (we were way to close) and he zipped back in right away when he probably saw my buddy move a bit. We gave up after that, shot some slugs in my yard and he left.

Went back out at noon, used my distressed woodpecker calls on both callers I have and one came zipping along the horizon and in at about 275. 1st shot napped him.

Let er cool down for 15 and called again with rabbit calls and sure enough, he pretty much stepped over his buddy to come in. first shot I missed somehow even laying prone, and had to lead him running. Low shot unfortunately.

Thanks to some calling tips, and not quitting after the first, good day!

These rolling fields next to the valley sure make it challenging, they sure know how to play the low spots for cover.

Both taken with my 6.5x55 swede custom rifle and 100grn Sierra varmint hollows close to 3200fps

Both males.

if you have a yote running, bark at them or whistle, that should stop them in their tracks for a better shot
