Since our Inuit buddy will be back in a couple days I have decided to post the awesome story of how I took my second coyote of the year.... I have always admired the way Fratri lays out the hunt for us and tells the story....
It was approximately 6 o'clock and I was washing dishes as I watched the deer feed on the corn I put out behind my house all winter.... I was using Palmolive soap as it is soft on your hands as you wash and was drying my dishes with a black and white dish towel.....
Suddenly the 13 deer all raised their heads and perked their ears as they looked across my yard.... I knew something was up..... I dropped my dishtowel.... and went for my gun.... For this particular hunt I chose a finely tuned and tested firearm... one of the most versatile and widely used guns in my collection.... Cooey model 84 12 gauge single shot in 12 gauge.... for an optic I chose a factory option... a small brass bead on the end of the barrel....
The Gun.....
Now.... I have tested many types of ammunition in this firearm with varied success.... as I did not have a shell handy that had a duracell battery in it I chose some 00 buck...... I set myself up in a prime location as the deer bolted for the hills...
The Stand....
Just as I threw open the french doors which lead to my prime coyote spot I spy one moving from left to right across my lawn 'errrr I mean the field... there is a second dog running through the brush.... I suddenly regret my choice of firearm..... The bush dog spots me and makes a bee-line south heading deeper into the woods and the yote on my lawn suddenly stops dead.... right near the pond where the deer were feeding...
I pull up my shotgun and attempt to site in.... at this point I am amazed at what wonderful factory optics come with these shotguns... they really don't make them like they used to.... apparently at this distance according to the brass bead one shot will take out approximately 3/4's of a coyote.... truly spectacular... At this point I decide to cover the front 3/4's of my prey and I pull the trigger unleashing a blast of single shot squirrel on the stock hammergun fury....
HOW IT WENT DOWN
I was standing on Y.... the arrow is the coyote's path across the ummmm.... meadow.... and he died on X
The end result was a male down... He tipped the scales at 38 pounds..... I have accidentally 'err I mean puposely added the bottom of my 68 liter rubbermaid garbage can as perspective....
