I'm just curious if anyone from NS hunts yotes and where you go to hunt them.

our season is year round.can use any centerfire/muzzle loader/rimfire/bow/crossbow from the close of general deer season(the first saturday in december) until the last of march.after that you are limited to shotgun and shot until the bear season opens in september.you can use any weapon that is legal for hunting bears as long as you have a valid bear permit.the same for deer if you have a valid permit for them(if you do not hunt bears).

have you used a shot gun to hunt them?
how effective was it?
what shot size?
at what range?

i have been thinking about going after a couple of them myself,i am no fan of coyote's but i wouldn't want to wound one and have it get away.

where on the island are you hunting them

never hunted them with shotgun they are hard enough to get within decent rifle range so i am not even going to attempt the shotgun.they are a very tough animal with an extreme will to live.even with a rifle and a well placed shot they can/have gone in excess of 100 yards before going down for keeps.a few have even had to have a second/third shot to finish them.

i don't have a problem finding them, their in my back yard.
i would like to cull the herd a bit,
and off season summer hunting might be fun to try.

but hunting them with a scatter shot?

if the province lets you hunt them (humanly) with a scatter shot, somebody must have figured out how to do it.

See the boys just posted another one of the 38 pound males on the NS form since we don't have any big ones as I have been told many times.:p
