Just looking for a few hunting tips for the dogs. Here in Newfoundland they are becoming very plentyful. unfortunatly our terrain is against us. Very heavily forested. Any Do's and Don't about Calling htem in. A group of us have use fox pro's, decoys mp3 calls, etc. Any help is great. all year no dogs.

know where the wind is coming from, and set up accordingly.
Full camo is not only fashionable- but required. They have extremely good sight.

And thats all I know. If anyone wanst to come in with their own info..

Honestly I've never had any luck with calling them. Instead we push the small patches of bush and have lots and lots of the little bastards run out. We find the small clumps of trees and have 2 guys walk around the perimeter in opposite directions. The 'yotes run out into the field and you shoot 'em. As long as you are shooting out into the field there's no risk of shooting your buddy on the other side of the trees.

It works for us. Your results may vary.

^ I agree with chris88

The best results I've had is with pushing them out to guys posting. Works great.

Otherwise, you need Bait to draw them to an area, and then watch and call a bit and hopefully they'll come.

I'd rather make something happen than wait for it to happen though.

The population is only just starting to climb on the Avalon, doghunter9. They are considerably more established in south/central and on the Burin. The same tips and tricks that are used elsewhere will work here, but its tougher all around and you can't expect the same success rates. A Foxpro and a decoy will be useful tools, but they don't replace working the wind, being still or going where the coyotes are.

My favorite method to hunt them is calling. I have tried the dog route but always come back to calling. I dont beleive camo is a must as I have shot quite a few in blue jeans and a t shirt. During the winter I hunt wearing my tough ducks and am always quite successful. The main factor is to making sure there are coyotes in the area, secondly would be wind direction and movement. I always like to have my back to the road with the wind in my face. In my area we have mostly small blocks but you would be surprised how many will call it home. I own a foxpro but rarely take it out. I always liked using the Lightning jack sound and mix in some locator howls or male challenges.

Good luck.
