Here I am minding my own business, surfing gunnutz, when what do I see in the EE? A brand new A3 T-marked upper (A4?) for $140. So what do I do? I buy it. I had to at that price.

The problem is that I'm currently at home on parental leave, waiting for my first EI check to show up so I can finally pay some bills, and all of a sudden I find this upper. My wife is going to kill me if she finds out. It was hard enough to sneak this past her, let alone the rest of a build.

This is my first flat top and I think that I'll turn it into my ultimate do-everything AR. You know what I mean, good for CQB and distances up to 500m. I'll probably go with a 16" midlength in 1/7 twist if I can stumble across one at a decent price (yeah, right). I'll have to settle for just building the upper for now and get another lower when I can afford it.

This will probably take me well over a year to piece together, bit by bit, as I scrounge up the cash. Ultimately, I hope to have something like this;

16" medium contour, mid-length, 1/7 with A2 FSB
9" railed forend (Larue, DD, or what I can afford)
1-4x illuminated optic in SPR mount (thinking IOR CQB)
Troy BUIS
PRI gasbuster
Two stage trigger (probably RRA, wish I could afford KAC or Geisselle)

I think that the above would give me a good base to start with, I could add/upgrade components later like grips, better bolt carrier, etc...The optic is the most expensive part, so it would probably be the last thing that I buy, yet I believe that it's also one of the most critical parts of the build.

Let me know what you think.

Good job man. Small beginnings grow into great things. I started with a Nornico CQ, and I've been building it bit by bit into a nice carbine. I just got a complete upper this week that I got a good deal on, and it's coming together. Stick with it, keep saving up and don't compromise on quality. Oh, and always post pictures.

YES! Most threads are useless without pictures :p

Seriously though, I'm all for turning small investments into masterpieces one part at a time. It's the way to go financially for some of us, plus you will take such pride when you're finished!

Now what about keeping the wife happy? lol
