You can hate me now...

Thanks for the links guys! As for the leather holster, you see quite a few reproductions but I'm pretty sure this one is original. It is mark on the back "R. Kuhlewein & Co. 1917 Erfurt". The Battle of Vimy Ridge was in the spring of 1917 so it is possible that the story is true. Anyone know if the troops returning home had to declare their trophies? My friends uncle was an officer so maybe they had some sort of official method that authorized them to bring souviners home. I would love to find some kind of paper trail on the gun but the Mauser records were torched in WWII.

Nice Find.

Buy the Gun, not the story.

In your case, Accept the Gun as a Gift, not the Story!

The challenge remains proving it was there at Vimy, which might be tough. Let us know if you find anything.

I dont hate you...

I have one just like it and it was free too....we should start a club

No foul here either.... I don't have one. Never had one. Free or otherwise.

But once I was given a pair of 4 digit commerical 1911's that were 93 serial numbers apart. They had been carried by two brothers serving in the CEF in WWI. They were gifted to me by an acquaintence, who was the son of one of the original owners.

So, not the same, but different. But I do know how you feel...lol...;) :D

I have a colt government 38 super with a RCAF pilot's name engraved on it. The gun is exc to mint and was built in 1929---traced year through the colt serial number service. do you think I could trace the owner?

I think you should give it to George Lucas so he can butcher it into a movie prop.
