You Don't Own A Type 81 - You Can't Speak For Us

This is the upteenth thread on this rifle and I'm ashamed to admit I've read them all. I bought two of these a fixed and folder and after several hundred rounds I'm impressed, I researched this rifle well before placing a pre order and certainly wasn't expecting a piece of firearm jewelry, those that did will be sorely disappointed.
For me at least it functions as expected, I can throw the cheapest steel cased corrosive ammo down the tube and not one ftf fte, not so for my mini 30 or the ar I built in 7.62 they require a more refined diet.
As for the naysayers comparing them to an sks well to me at least that's a fair comparison except for the removable mag accuracy and function are on par. To them I say go and get a commercial mfg to build a new sks and see what it cost.
Again accuracy is comparable to my mini 30 which I believe cost somewhere in the neighborhood of 1200 now although the mini has a better fit and finish. For me it was a good purchase and I'm not concerned about what Poly mfg made these for or what profit TI made off them, Take a look at some on line auctions in the states and see what few there are sell for, you'll be shocked I guarantee, supply and demand always rule.
Those that bought and paid the G and like them for the most part don't mind the price, those that don't like the rifle sell it on EE or send them back, those that didn't buy I just send their comments to the peanut gallery where they belong.

Peanut gallery, thats some good advice, I am going to do the same...

I have spent more than 1000 dollars at the nu den in Ottawa in a night and all i got was the clap. My type 81 has never given me the clap. I think the type 81 was the better deal.

Don't take my word for it. Check out the US akfiles forum.

Well that thread certainly has aspects of the T81 discussions we've seen on here...shades of CGN, made me feel right at home LOL!

BWAHAHA.... now that puts things in perspective! Laugh2

Obligatory T81 content :p

Unfortunately at times I wish we had to prove we even had a rifle in order to post. So many people willing to poop on fellow sportsmen. IDC what you shoot, just go shooting and leave the negativity to the liberals

I didnt jump on the pre-sale but will probably acquire one in the near future. Rifle looks cool.

DILLIGAF: most efficient way for the mag change is to grab the empty one and discard it as you reach for a fresh one. Mag slapping does looks cooler though :p

Meh, they cost $1000 now. Oh well. Pay it or don't. Fwiw, ti seems to have sold around 1000 of them at this price without trying too hard.

In fact, you could argue they were almost indifferent about their customers or sales volumes.

Trying too hard? It took 2 years to sell 1000 rifles lol.

Isn't TS the guy that was happy with 6" groups at 50 yards? I'm pretty sure he'd be happy if someone pissed on his leg and told him it was raining.

Back again eh? For someone who knew all along how horrible the type81 is you sure like to click on the t81 threads. Must have seen that little pecker of yours again, got enraged and logged onto cgn?

I can't remember when I wasn't shooting... Been in love with guns since I got my Grandfathers 28gauge shotgun for my 8th birthdday, lol... Its just more expensive now... Funny i don't feel robbed at all.

Not sure if you got my post? ...was in reference to the AKM comment.
Some of us had or still have them. They were a $400 rifle then and based on pricing of ‘Norc M-305s...pretty much still are.
But whatever, this horse has been beaten to death.

Dilligaf: yeah, kinda slow at the start. It looks great until you miss the button with the mag - the whole point of having it within reach of the trigger finger.

Whatever dude, you know you got ripped off. You should have just bought a $225 BBQ paint mismatched Russian SKS refurb. Better rifle in every way according to internet wisdom.

Does your crappy gun shoot around corners?

Does it have dremel grinding on the bolt? I read they are all defective anyhow. My SKS goes bang every time and cost $800 less. Loser.

Reading your posts on other threads, I thought you bought one or two from T.I.

Editing my post... should have read further down.

Ooops, I should have caught the joke....I am only on my first cup of coffee this morning.

After all the "issues" popped up I decided it wasn't worth adding fuel to the fire for the poor bastards that got lemons, shafted on mags, etc.
These crybaby inexperienced fanboy threads are too much fun to pass up though...get the best of me lol

It's not like TI was advertising them much. Selling 1000 rifles on pre-order is actually not that easy in Canada. Chicom battle rifles are a niche market and virtually nobody had any knowledge or experience of the T81.

If they were on the shelves at canadian tire, cabelas, etc. for $1000 and were a known quantity, they would sell a lot of rifles, even at $1000 I'm betting.

We shall see, but I believe TI will wait until the next shipment arrives before posting them for sale (i.e. probably no pre-orders) and will distribute them to other dealers (such as Tenda).

I'm guessing they all sell out in a few months - not 2 years. But we will see, I'm only speculating.

CSC exceeded 1000 pre orders with comparable advertising for the SLR in like 6 months.

And has TI confirmed there will be a next shipment? Last I heard that might not be happening.

Will definitely buy a folder next time.
Like my wood stock.
Unlike some BSh..ers were saying re: mag availability- they are not available.
Also unlike some BSh..ers were saying t81 mag designed just for t81- not true, they fit sks-kd nicely
again like my t81 and don't care about mild buttstock deviation to the right

Hopefully, next time mags will be plentiful .. of course we can always modify ak mags
Hopefully, there is next time

1) The SLR is vaporware until real examples are in real people's hands, but it's selling based on the idea that it's a non-restricted .223 AR15. An AR15 is a known quantity and a great many people have used one, of know someone who thinks highly of the platform. It can;t be directly compated to an obscure chinese battle rifle that virtually nobody had ever heard of before it was imported.

2) Great way to crank up the rumour mill. TI's last word on the subject was a few days ago in their forum. They are importing another batch along with mags.

3) A fair criticism is that they don't appear to be buying additional mags from polytech. They are only importing the balance of magazines. If they have half a brain, they will make good on their mag IOU's before selling additional extra mags to new buyers, else their reputation will lie in tatters moreso than it is now. Bu then, if they were halfway smart, they'd be telling poly to double their magazine order - the PLA still makes new T81 mags all the time because they are consumed in service by the guns that already exist. They get damaged or wear out in military use. It's clear that what they thought was the right quantity for the first 1000 rifles was woefully inaccurate.

Wolverine sold 400 CZ58's or whatever just on CGN in 1 day at $1000 a pop couple years back. There is a lot of purchasing power on CGN, far more then we think.
I'm not sure the 2nd batch of T81's will move very quickly given the present issues with the first batch.
