i had 2 P99 fullsize and i ddint really like it. I hated the trigger and the mag release. I would prefer a compact glock.
Musky Hunter:
Did you have the P99/AS? I read where most folks seem very happy with the traditional DA/SA trigger action of the AS, while those with the "politically correct" DAO, and whatever that other type is called aren't so happy.
As to the mag release, I'm a lefty, and the ambi mag release is one of the aspects of the P99c/AC I prefer. They work great for me, but I can see where that might be a subjective thing.
In years past I had a Glock 26 (two actually), but the ergonomics simply weren't good for my small hands. The G26 felt like a brick to me. The P99c/AS came with large and small (the full sized I think offers L,M,S) grip options, and I replaced the ones that came on it (large), with the small size and the pistol fits my hand, and that of my wife, perfectly.
The main thing I didn't like about the Glocks in general was the "always light" trigger action.. I think leo's and such, if trained properly, are well served by the Glocks, but the average person is not. Too much chance for AD's IMO..
The P99c/AD offers a first round DA, SA, or long trigger pull SA.. I think a DA first round is probably the way to go for non-professional shooters. (For self defense).
I'm a big fan of 9mm pistols, especially compacts. I have a Sig P239/Star BM/S&W 3913/Bersa Thunder 9/UC/Walther P1/Walther P5/KelTec P11 and in some ways they are all excellent pistols. I've just been pleasantly surprised at the overall package offered in the Walther P99c/AC.
But, choices make the world go round, and what works for me might not necessarily work for you.. No problem.
Thanks for your reply.
