You guys see the 308 from kel-tec

I haven't read the "review" yet, but there is one on Gunblast.

http://gunblast.com/KelTec-RFB.htm

Take this with a grain of salt. I have yet to read a review of a rifle that this guy didn't like.

Good comparison though between the typical AR-10 size and the RFB. Both have the same length barrel.

Thanks for the above Epoxy7!

I was wondering how the cases eject forward:
"The empty cartridge case is not ejected with the rearward movement of the bolt and carrier, but is held by the extractors until the bolt is moving forward chambering a cartridge. At that time, the empty case is tilted slightly upward, and is released by the extractors into the ejection chute as the bolt closes on the freshly-chambered round. It is an ingenious design, like nothing that I have ever seen before. The empty cases then slide forward, out through a hole in the gas block"

Also nice to see some close up photos of the different areas and parts.

If you guys want some more info on the RFB then you should check out the Kel-Tec forum. Lots of info there.

I read those forums from time to time as well. Unfortunately it always seems to turn into a thread about suppressors. The thread could start out asking what type of polymer is used, and within about 5 posts it'll turn into "That polymer works perfectly with such and such suppressor". Then you'll quickly be reading about which gas setting, brand, or thread pitch on the barrel is best. :(

LOL

Having scoured those forums looking for postings discussing high round count reliability, updated shipping/pricing info, etc., I have to say that I completely agree with your assessment. But, I'll keep checking on that forum, looking for gems of info that will help keep my eagerness to own an RFB stoked.

THis gunblast reivew is as useful as reading the spec sheet myself - I don't have to read all these paragraphs to repeat what I can see in the picture myself!

The grouping test is completely pointless with 3 shot group.

I just read it. I've come to expect that though from Gunblast. I have yet to see a firearm that they don't like.

Out of curiosity, I called up Kel-Tec and got through to a sales agent. She said the new CNC machinery is on schedule to be fired up in January.

This is good to know, thanks. The RFB is bigger than Keltec: the design needs to be sold to a BIG company. 2010 will pass before we see an RFB in Canada, unless of course, you import one yourself.

Yup, my gut is telling me you are right.

I wouldn't hesitate to have one imported if I could readily get it converted to non-restricted since I'm itching for a short .308 that I can drag through thick brush with less snags.

Plus, more so than the ergonomics of hiking in dense bush, I'm looking forward to being able to make some safe and steady offhand shots with an RFB since I shoot a hell of a lot better when my forearm is supporting less weight.

For example, when comparing my offhand accuracy between my cz 858's and my Tikka T3 Tactical(heavy barrel), my groups with the CZ's are way, way better than my T3 groups(or any of my other rifles, for that matter). The obvious reason that the less accurate gun produces the best groups is that I just don't have the skill or forearm strength to keep the front heavy T3 as steady as the far lighter 858. The same is true of my SL8, AIA-B3, M14's, Enfield, etc., etc. It doesn't matter if the gun does <1MOA off a bench or 4MOA off a bench, my offhand group performance is far more dependent on how front heavy the rifle is.

Oh well, it looks like another hunting season will come and go without any of us packing an RFB into the bush...

Got to handle one at SHOT they certainly handle nice. It was a very interesting design.

I asked the guy when they would be in volume production and he said they already are.

I asked him how many they have made so far and he scowled at me. My impression is that they have something keeping them from entering into full scale production, who knows what that is.

"Full production" my foot. There are only what 200 out in the wild right now?

No wonder he scowled. Those markets in Pakistan and Afghanistan could probably churn them out faster!!!

They said they had some trouble with a part that they contracted out for someone else to do. At least that was the story they gave us. I think it had something to do with the ejection and they had to tweak the design.

Anyone have any new info? REALLY biting @ the bit to get my hands on a 18.5" NON-restricted RFB for big game hunting!!!

Cheers
Jay

I've been reading about issues with the bolt release essentially being useless. That could be it I guess. Who knows. The US can be a fickle market at times, so who knows whats on the go with these dudes.

Just an update on the RFB. A company in Vancouver is the exclusive distributor for Kel-Tec in Canada now. Kel-Tec is making the SUB2000 and RFB for Vault distribution with 18.5 inch barrels, for the Canadian market. Both Non-Restricted........ I heard the first week of August is when they expect the first shipment.

Man, I got so excited reading your post. Then I realized it's probably BS and I got so depressed I just want to go out and shoot something. :ar15:
