Because you can get parts for them. Almost every part is available from Brownells.com (thanks Ghosite) or at gun shops here in Canada.

Of the XD, Baby Eagle, Sig 229 Elite and Glock 21 I own, the Sig and the Glock are the only guns I can get parts for reliably, without waiting 2 years for them.

I just had to order some grip scews for my 229 and you know what? I ordered them today, they just sent me an email saying that they shipped today. I'm gonna hate when my XD or Baby Eagle breaks....there weren't any parts even available for those.

Good luck to you who own a HK......I hope it never breaks on you. And if it does, I hope you know how to run a lathe.

Glad to hear that worked out for you. I saw your "WTB grip screws for SIG 229" and I was thinking, "This guy is going to be waiting forever... and it's a 229 going to waste!"

Yah, Brownells' is great for the companies they stock.. especially the American companies like S&W, Remington, Ruger, Colt, Mossberg, etc.

For European pistols it is basically GLOCK and SIG that they have a near full line for if you look under that "Factory Parts" tab.

If you look under "Handgun Parts" you can find more stuff for Beretta and some other companies. They do have some XD mags, aftermarket HK mags, aftermarket HK springs, etc.

The better place for HK is Numrich, and they will ship to Canada as well (unlike just about every other gun store in the U.S. with a website). They don't have everything, but they do have quite a bit - especially for the older models.

The new HK's (P2000, P30, HK45) are going to be hell to get anything for in Canada for awhile. I have some mags and baseplates coming from Wolverine, but the days of just going online and having it on it's way the next day are going to be a long way off.

GLOCK and SIG definitely have their advantages in that regard.

I don't know where you live, but if your ever in Calgary and want to try a 229 Elite, shoot me a PM and if I'm in town, well set something up.

I own 3 HK P7M8's and ordered a whole bunch of parts including multiple sear bars, firing pin bushings, drop safety/springs, extractor and springs, multiple pins and springs and sundry other stuff that may break.

Took a while but Wolverine Supplies got them in. If you like a gun and are willing to wait and stock up, you can get parts.

As an Edmontonian you will forgive me if I attempt to upgrade the use of your English but there is a subtle difference between cheap and inexpensive. Now Glocks are cheap while S&W M&P's are inexpensive. C'est difference!

I will give you the availablity of parts but then ....there are two sides to access to replacement parts. Would it be to much to ask to do it right the first tme?

Take Care

Bob

You'd better stick to English, my dear Edmontonian. Your French spelling and grammar is incorrect, I'm afraid. :D

I would lump the M&P with the Glock in the same 'cheap' pile.
Don't get me wrong, I own both and think they are reliable, decent guns for the price. They just are not in the same league as the Sigs (Pro not withstanding) for durability.

Added:

Inexpensive = cheap (anything else is symantics)

That should be, "Your French spelling and grammar ARE incorrect, I'm afraid."
(Sorry, man, I just couldn't resist!) :p
