In all probability this will be the fourth year in a row I do not go hunting. Various reasons but that's the way it goes for now. I thought I would lose that deep inner urge to hunt but after today.

However, I was out at the family farm for thanksgiving today and as always the dog and I have a good walk and poke around as it was a beautiful day. Well geese were landing all over the field north of the house and low and behold later we put up a gorgeous bull moose that just sauntered by us less than 100 yards.

THE URGE IS DRIViNG me nuts right now. Lol....

I thought I was losing the urge this year , I’m usually Out 50-60 days every sept-dec hunting Blacktail, whitetail, muledeer, got really sick in early September with pneumonia, still don’t have my lungs fully back and it makes it hard because I’m used to hiking in for deer. have been beaten down about not being able to take time Off now from work since I missed so much already, went out yesterday with the girlfriend and she plugged a buck on a day hunt close to home, got me back into the drive to hunt, I just have to adapt to what I can do at the moment, I hope You get out this year if not only for a day or two and a stroll in the bush close to home cause you never know, if you don’t get out use the time to check maps and plan for an epic hunt next year, don’t worry your wait on hunting will be repaid with some good game !!!

Its been 3 seasons now that I have missed. Used to hunt the inlaws farm, for about 28 years. They sold it 3 years ago. New owners were off shore and wanted no one on their property.

Next year if I get my cabin done on a property I bought last year, I should be good to go again.

I was working out in the bush when the season opened and was pretty beat so I wasn’t as gung ho this year, but being there for a couple close friends early season bucks lit the fire again. So far I have a deer quartered and a friend and I split a nice meat bear, couple rabbits and a bunch of grouse. Now to cut a couple more deer tags before the end of November.

The wife and I finally got out for a couple of days this weekend to do some hunting. Managed to harvest 9 ruffies, saw 12 stone's sheep lambs and ewes, a nice black bear and 3 moose.
The bear was onto us from over 500 yards and we could not get closer than 350, which is further than my wife wants to shoot. I should have had the nice 3 yr old bull moose that was tending a large cow and calf, but just couldn't sneak a bullet through the willows into its vitals. Was a great weekend and we enjoyed it immensely!

There have been a number of times when I could not hunt over the years. Sometimes when the opportunity arose I would simply go sit in the bush somewhere to get the 'Feeling'. Was not raised in a hunting family, just the way I have always been.

Earlier on a couple of months back, I 'experienced' a TIA or mini stroke. As such, I've put any activity out in the field for game on hold. All the tests have come back looking really good and the only thing showing up as a possible cause at this point in time is a slight A-FIB heart beat. That was successfully corrected with a cardioversion procedure plus a med. I Have one last test/procedure on the 17th, then perhaps, I'll get out locally for a limited amount of Deer hunting. The only restriction I've been given is NO involvement in high contact sports. Rec hockey and Karate are out and I was reminded to WEAR my helmut on bike rides. So far, other than that, everything else is good to go.

This will be year #3 if we dont make it out. Trying to get out, its not easy! We just lost our daughter to cancer after a 2 year battle

This feeling will never go away. [I hope, lol]

I am getting excited a good 3 weeks before the season opens,
and I will hunt as long as I can still get around.

This year was definitely a winner for me. Simply reinforces the
desire to get out there and enjoy the outdoors. Dave.
