You say gophers are a problem? Let's put wild pigs in our sights too!

Yep on the pig vitals. Heart is located in the lower part of the chest cavity and is partially screened by the fore leg. Use an adequate caliber and the lungs usually take some considerable damage too with a bullet strike to the pumper. Talking about adults here.

A shot a little above between the eyes or behind the ear is the kill shot - so they tell me.
I wish I had some kill shots but I don't. Here's what to look for (taken at various locations in Arkansas this past winter.)

I've hunted them in Southern Georgia (US) using an AR-15 with night vision, 75 grain bullets, and regular magazines at night. Most exciting hunting I've personally done.

In Manitoba, it's open season year round for boar - nothing needed save a firearm. The "problem" is, there just aren't any to be found. I would love to be able to hunt boar with some reasonable chance of success. They're more interesting than deer and in my opinion the meat is better. Maybe I should relocate to Sasky land...

Do you know anybody in the Glenboro, Cypress River areas? Lot's of wild pigs along the south side (and now, apparently, the north side as well) of the Assiniboine river in that area.

Couple years ago a buddy of mine went down to the states on a guided boar pistol hunt. They supplied the .44 mag wheel gun. He said they stopped "right now" when you hit them. He came home with a bunch of free range pork!!! Man was it tasty!

I was down shooting them on a friends land with an AR10, spotlighting them at night. Get them in the wrong area and they will just pour blood like a garden hose and run away. We got 6 and hit 3 others. He said they will get between 15 and 20 a week, but it doesn't seem to make a dent. His families land is like 200 miles square.

How do they taste compared to domestic pork? Meat prices are getting out of hand. Some serious hunting pressure on yummy wild boar could keep the populations in check while supplying hunting opportunities and food.

I prefer the taste of wild boar.

Wild boar tastes as good or better than regular pig depending on what its been eating and how its been killed.

I've eaten many but only ever shot one myself.

223 55 grn did the job but I hit her in the neck right through the spine.

It is usually pure dumb luck to find them in the daylight and anyone that is wishing to be infested with them obviously isn't a land owner.

I know some guys that were putting down a domestic pig with a .45. They head shot it expecting it to die quickly. It ran around squealing for another minute while they shot it several more times.
