I went to the Burnaby gun show at 830 am today looking for a couple of sported Enfield #4s. A quick scoot around and none to be had with full length barrels. All were cut down. So I did my secondary crawl looking for something interesting.I spotted a sported Ross, full length at a table. It was going for $125. It was in nice overall condition. I thought it over and decided to get back after a look at another table. A couple of minutes later I headed back to make an offer. Some other guy was looking it over. I stood beside him politely waiting for him to put it down. No luck He offered $100 and it was sold. Dumb ass me. You have to be quick.
I did however, come away with a very nice condition sported P14 Mk1 Remington. No star. These are a bit more scarce. I got it for $125 and it is a good candidate for a restore.
I should have grabbed that Ross though:HR:

Was that the one with the side mounted scope?

There was a sporterized (or commercial??) Ross in the middle table there... was that the one?

I know what you mean about "you snooze you lose"... that guy in the left corner selling all those 22s/bolts and overpriced 7.62x54 stripper clips ALWAYS snaps up stuff I want before I can even get there! :bangHead:

I walked away happy with my purchases, but I was looking for the guy who had a Ross Cadet .22 and the other dude who had the well worn Izzy M91/30 for negotiable prices that have been at the shows for a few months....but, what the hell, like I said I can't complain;)

WELCOME to the "I should have bought it right now" CLUB.

There have been many times over the past 60 years that I have walked into a Gun Show, and there on the first few tables were something that was underpriced or that I might have liked. But, it was early and there were a lot more tables to look at.

About 3 minutes later, and three tables down, it finally gets between your ears that it WAS a good deal, and you turn back to pick it up. Guess what? Someone else thought it was a good deal too, and he is walking away with it.

Now, if I think it is a good deal or well underpriced, I have learned to buy it.

Can I join the club, too?

About 8 or 10 years ago, walked past a friend's table at Brandon. He usually has highgrade shotguns and such, so I didn't look. Ten minutes later a fellow comes up to me, "Was this a good deal at $325? I got it from ######x."

Trials Number 4.

Enfield, 1931.

BEAUTIFUL condition.

I very nearly threw up.

ALWAYS LOOK.

And if it's good..... GRAB IT NOW!!!!!!

The temptation at gunshows is to scope out the whole room and then return to the items you're interested in. Don't do it, I have learned the hard way. There are few really "good deals" at shows, when you see one grab it, it won't be there for long.

I got real lucky one year, a guy had an excellent condition Toyo Kogyo T99 for $150 :)eek:), but I only had $100 on me. I don't think anybody realized what kind of rifle it was, because when I sidled past the table an hour later, the guy said "I really don't want to take this home with me. For $100 it's yours.":eek:

The web site for the club is ( www.hacsbc.ca ). They hold a guns show in Burnaby ever month.
Their best show was the 2 day show in Chilliwack, March10 & 11 in 2012.
See their web site for future shows.
