I think they addressed that statement on snopes.com or some other similar site. They figured that even a huge man whouldn't be able to stand upright while firing a minigun due to the backward force or the rounds being fired off.

Oh you could fire it, you just wouldn't be able to carry the ammo or power supply to make it worth while.

I rented the ####ty DVD "Soldier" with Kurt Russel and the bonus features show him fireing a mini gun standing and it does nock him over after a while but he still fires it standing. Yes they were blanks, I know, but I'm just saying. Same as a fire hose I guess, just brace yourself.
 
Taht was awesome. If you were using that thing to shoot up old cars, fridges, and other crap at a junkyard, all of us rednecks would have a field day. There is nothing a redneck likes better than to shoot up junk with a gun :D
