I'm not up on all the recent SKS stuff, although I know the Russian ones are hot items these days, how about the yugo's? Are they very desirable? Whats the pricing like?

the yugo's that are coming into Canada are they all surplus or can you get new ones also?

It's been a few years since any Yugos were imported. I've only seen unissueds in the 59/66 up here. The M59s were mostly refurbs, but in real good shape. John at Marstar always said we got the best ones up here, and sent you guys the 375,000 others.

I would have to disagree with John on his best ones theory. there were about 500 brand new non surplus M59/66A1's sent to one of our importers with a load of surplus ones about 7 years ago. about half were sold before the ATF boys realized they were not surplus. the ones already sold were given a pardon, the unsold ones were cut up and sold to numrich as parts.

they are only serialed on the receiver and stock, all other parts are un-numbered. there's not a drop of cosmo on them. the serials range from 1000xA to 105xxA and as noted in the pic below are a much larger font then normal. I/O was the importer.

You are pretty well "dead on"

"The M59s were mostly refurbs, but in real good shape. "
In fact most of them were new, very few were refurbs....

"John at Marstar always said we got the best ones up here, and sent you guys the 375,000 others"
In Canada the vast majority of what we imported was cream of the crop....
As for the several hundred thousand we sold in the USA we shipped ONLY the very best in us-issued guns. Although several years old they were new in the crate.

The American importer to whom we sold these and VERY large numbers of Mausers wanted only the best, we selected them and left anything less than excellent behind for others....

I tried to remember what transpired John, but I'm getting up there in age these days.

BEACH BUM;
I would respecfully suggest you do a bit of research before making statements....

There was a number of these rifles imported into the USA on falsified documents from a prescribed nation (at the time).

Inter Ordnance was involved in some difficult to explain practices....

And why you ask are we aware of all this, because we won a major decision in court against them....

Marstar, as far as I know, provide the first batch of Yugo SKS to the US, most of which were in excellent shape. Afterwards, many importers brought in the issued and battlefield pickups directly from former Yugoslavian states and sold them at fire sale prices.

Timely topic, as my dad and I have just spent the morning cleaning up our M59/66A1. With all that cosmoline out now, she's a beaut.. and they do still pop up from time to time for sale on here as well for anyone who's looking! As for Wanstalls listing - it is quite clearly described as a Russian SKS and not Yugoslavian, I would say they're using the wrong photo. If they were actually selling Yugo SKSes for 229.. well.. I'll take eight.

Now, I do have a question about serial number markings on our particular one that I hope someone can answer. It is stamped with a matching serial number on every piece that should be as far as I'm aware. However it also has a different serial number matching to itself electropenciled or marked in a few locations - namely, the stock (in the dimple/recess by the trigger), under the receiver cover and on the underside of the sight ladder. The sight ladder is the only place with just the electropenciled serial - the stock and the receiver cover also have the stamped number as you would expect.

So what is the significance of the EPed serial number?

I'll respectfully(spelled properly) ask which statements need the research?

let me give you an update on the charges against I/O you have posted, they were found not guilty. the judge even made a statement to the effect that the ATF overstepped their authority.

There was a number of these rifles imported into the USA on falsified documents from a prescribed nation (at the time).

If your referring to the new rifle I posted please tell me what other importer got some because the only ones seen have been I/O imports. having talked to Oli and david about this in person is how I did my research.

I bought a M59 several years ago from John and it was/is in fantastic shape, all matching numbers, not even bumps on the stock. Love it
