Looking to get a load made up for tikka with 22 inch barrel. I have IMR 4350, IMR 4895, and RL 19.
Not much time to get to the range. Was wanting to get at least 2700 fps out of the accubond.

What are your reccomendations? I keep hearing 55-57 gr of IMR 4350 seems to be the sweet spot for 180 in the 30-06.

Im loading 178gr amax at 56.5 and get over 2700. I tried 57gr but never got much more velocity and get the same accuracy. I shot the federal ammo wiht the 180 accubond and it shot into groups of 4" for 3 shot groups. Also my boss tried some in his 270wsm and shot about the same with handloads. He moved to partitions and shoots less then .5" now

For my 180 grain Accubond load, I settled on 55.0 grains of IMR 4350 and out of my Remington Model 6 this was averaging around just under 2,600 fps. Very, very accurate too.

rem 700 custom
fed 215 primer
win brass
57 grns 4350
180 ab or bt hornady 180 il or sst
all work good under the same load.
loaded to max lenth the of the quick clip mag

From the Sierra Manual:

Accuracy Load: Viht N550/ 49.0grs. 2600fps/ 2702ft. lbs.
Hunting Load: RE-22/ 56.0grs. 2700fps/ 2914ft. lbs.

They list 5 powders in the IMR4350 to Re22 that will reach 2800 fps.

Nosler lists Re22 as the most accurate powder tested, with loads from 58.0 - 62.0 with the 62.0 the most accurate load and giving 2812 fps.

180 gr Nosler Accubond LR
55.9 gr. IMR 4007SSC

180 gr Hornady interlock RN ( interestingly - this combo shot 4 inches higher at 100 yards then the LR Accubonds)
58.5 gr. H4831SC

180 gr Nosler Accubond LR
55.9 gr. H4350

I was getting better accuracy with some loads using a 165 gr Nosler ballistic tip SP so I still need to do some work. I also need to slow down the bullet speed for hunting under 300 yards ( reviews suggest too much speed at shorter distances so bullet doesnt perform as well as it should (so I have to look for another sweet spot) or use the Nosler partition instead and see what happens - the joys of choices and not enough time - grrr

I have used the 165 gr. Nosler partitions for 30yrs. + in the 30-06, and now load the Accu bonds as well. Try 57gr. of IMR 4350. Vel. 2850. This load dropped a nice bull moose in his tracks with the accu bonds a couple years ago. Accurate as hell to out of my M-70. If the 180's are your thing great. This load is right out of Nosler manual.

Of the tree powders I would try IMR 4350 first as it has proved to be very versatile with 180'3 in the 06. Next try RL19 as it is a similar burning rate. The H4895 is a classic powder for the 06 but seems to work better with the lighter bullets and won't give quite the velocity of the slower powders with heavier bullets. I'won't mention charge weights as I have seen maximum loads vary by up to 5 gr in some depending on 1 bore dis. seating depth, crimping and chamber dimensions.

If you want to get maximum velocities in your '06 with the 180 grain and 200 grain weights,
The best powders are: Reloder 22, Norma MRP, Vihtavuori N560, IMR4831 & Reloder 19.

In a 24" barrel, 2850 with the 180 is usually attainable at safe pressures, but it will vary a bit from rifle to rifle.
2700 and pennies is achievable with 200's.

I have had spectacular success with Norma MRP, and it is my go-to powder in the '06 with any
bullet over 165 grains. IMR 4831 and RL22 have also been very good.

Regards, Dave.

Looks like 55gr is accurate in my gun. Would like to find a load with RL 19 in 180 for the 30-06.

Moving on to finding a load in 150 gr with the accubond. Not sure why, but what the hell.

that was my sweet spot and it was much higher than 2700fps

In my last reloading adventure I was playing with a 22" barrel '06 and 180 partitions. As was suggested by the previous owner, the 4350's turned out to be the sweet powders for the load and rifle, as did RL 19. Now I get to do it all over again once I repair a few minor cracks in the stock and bed it properly, lol.
