What are you guys using your 22 250's for?

Who's using them on Coyotes? Jack rabbits? Gophers?
strictly paper?

What is you long range consistent shot on say a jackrabbit sized varmint.
200 yrds, 300 yrds, etc etc

Tell me about your 22 250

I have two varmint rifles, one a 22-250 and one a 222. I prefer the 222 for gophers and just about anything else closer than 250 yards, but the 22-250 really shines for coyotes and anything else past 250. It's actually pretty easy to hit a jack rabbit sized target at 300+ yards with the 22-250.

2 deer and a bunch of gophers. of course i don't have it anymore. it has been replaced with a nifty little k-hornet, which sees use on gophers, skunks, and coyotes.

Just got a .22-250 (Ruger #1 of course :D) and need to know what bullet people have found does the least pelt damage. I am thinking of using 55gr. Nosler BT as they shoot really well in this gun. Good choice or not??

I also want to see how 60 gr. Nosler Partitions shoot. Has anyone had trouble stabilizing this in a 1 in 14 twist barrel? Anyone use them on 'yotes and are they easier on the pelts?

I shoot them in my M70 with a 1 in 14 twist.

They are shorter than the 55 Ballistic Tips so if your rifle stabilizes that bullet the Partition will be no problem.

The biggest reason I didn't choose .22-250 was because I've heard it's a 'barrel burner', and you can only reasonably expect accuracy for 3-4000 rounds.

Is this even true? I know you're burning a lot of extra powder, but is throat erosion the limiting factor here?

Can anyone tell me if the 22-250 is much louder than a .223? Thanks,

i shot the 223 today first, the 22-250 was kind of muffled in terms of loudness and my ears were still ringing from the first couple shots out of the 223. I gave up trying to tell the difference and put my ear plugs back in.:runaway::runaway:

Thanks, 'Boo - I should have figured that out myself. Reloadingseconds has the 60 gr. NP's right now but I didn't want to waste money on something that might not work.

No, IMO it's a lot to small. Doesn't stop it being used though. It will work if properly placed with the right bullet. Best check if it's legal though.

Was just going to say this; in Alberta, anything under .23 caliber is illegal for use on big game. These regulations will be in your local hunting regs, not in the firearms act; check with the local fish and game association for the latest copy to be sure.
