Your 3 gun battery-what is it?

.22LR (90%)
12gauge (8%)
7,62x39 (2%)

- .22lr - The vast majority of hunting I do is varminting.

- 12gauge - Then comes pest birds, and the occasional grouse.

- 7.62x39 - Kinda a controversial round around here for hunting, but it fits my needs. The larger pests - feral cats gone mean (if they aren't bothering any of the domestic cats and dogs, I leave alone - but sometimes you kinda need to deal with them), badgers, coyotes, every couple of years a beaver or two that are damning up irrigation canals. All of these in quite low numbers. A deer once a year. A 30-30 lever would do, but x39 ammo is just way cheaper. Cheaper to the point that if I leave the .22s at home and just grab an SKS, it's still cheap enough to shoot gophers with. I bought a Zastava this fall to scope out and replace the SKS's for most things - don't need semi-auto, the Zastava has an order of magnitude better trigger, is more accurate. Even the non corrosive ammo is cheap enough that it was easy to set aside what should effectively be a lifetime supply of ammo for it.

I like the bigger rifles too, but just don't find I "need" them much. 99.9% of my practical shooting is within 150yards, and nothing bigger than a deer.

For birds, I could get by with my 12 gauge Benelli SBE II

For game animals from coyotes to moose, my Remington 700 in .30-06 has pretty much always been my go-to rifle.

For everything bigger than that, my Merkel 140AE double in 450-400 Nitro Express.

Yes, I could live with just 3 guns. But why would I want to? :)

Home province and keeping it to whats already in my safe.
My three gun battery would be:
Stevens 200 .223 with a 1-9 twist barrel scoped with a 4-12 Leupold vx1, from small game all the way to whitetails just choose the right projectile (Flame suit on) and cheap enough to shoot lots.
.30-06 Remington 700 BDL with a 3-9 Bausch and Lomb
12 gauge Remington 870 wingmaster with 26 vent ribbed rem-choke barrel and slug barrel

For all of Canada/NA :
Keep the .30-06 and the shotgun and I think I would use the money from parting with my other guns to fund a switch barrel rig maybe a tc encore with various barrels including a front stuffer and optics for all, perhaps something nicer like a sauer or blaser.

International I don't know things get fuzzy here too many special rules and guidlines and who knows what kind of regulations for importing firearms, keep the .30-06, keep the 870 and perhaps add a field double gun with a set of 9.3x74 barrels anything these can't get done or aren't allowed for I am sure a suitable loaner could be arranged.

.223 Rem - Semi
.338 Lapua Magnum - Bolt
12 Gauge - Pump

If I could add 2 more I'd include my .308 Semi & one of my big bore Levers in .405 WCF or .450 Marlin...just sayin

7x57 Custom; 30-06 Tikka T3 Battue; 870 Marine Magnum 12 ga with extra cantilever rifled barrel. All have Leupold scopes and all have sights.
