Cover ground, and pay attention to the deer you bust or that bust you.
I learned a whole lot more from the deer, than I ever did from books or other hunters. You will learn a lot about where the deer do, and do not hang out, and you will learn not to waste a bunch of time in places that there are no deer in. Once you know more or less that you are in an area the deer actually hang about in, then go through that area slow and quiet like, though it seldom works if you try that just after you went through the place like a bull in a china shop!
More time in the bush ( not on your ass in the truck with the heater and radio on) equals more opportunities to eat venison.
Deer are funny critters. Some of them will get up and slink away, while others will come over to see what the noise is about.
Breathe. Don't panic. Pick a spot, aim at the spot, shoot the spot!
Have a plan for what you will do with it if you get one, and the weather is not cool. Going to all that trouble, so you can chuck the whole lot in the bin, is a waste.
Remember, if you want a guarantee that you will bring meat home, go to the store.
Keep yer eyes and ears open, pay attention, keep a camera handy, and learn from every non productive hunt.
There are no failures as a result of coming in empty handed. Every day in the bush is a great day to enjoy!
Cheers
