hen I was shooting matches I liked to use lapua for my 308's and Dominion /C.I.L. for my service rifle in .303Brit.

For hunting I don't have a preference, but do use a lot of old C.I.L. brass and I also have 150 Herters brass for the 6.5X55 and the e.303's

All you guys who think you're cheap buggers by not buying Lapua... you're not cheap - you're actually paying a premium...
I bought 100 .308 Lapua a few months ago. They have gone through 8 reloadings. No cracks, no separations, and the primer pockets are still firm. I believe I will get at least 10... probably a lot more... reloads out of these things before a pocket won't hold a primer.

So, lets just say $110 for 100... 11 cents per bang, for the most consistent brass available, and less than that if they last 15 or 20 reloadings. Only time will tell, but I'LL TAKE IT !!!

I bought 500 IVI once fired .223 a while ago... price was right... hehe, BUT the prep was pretty intense. Worth it to me, but be prepared. So far I like what I'm seeing... if I only fired these things once it would be 10 cents per bang. I think by looking at them, they should be good for many reloads, but if I do this again, I will probably get some automated prep tools!

By comparison, when I first got my gun, I bought a box of Federal blue box cheapies. I brought the cases home and tried to prime them... not one would hold a primer. Taught me a valuable lesson right off the bat... C.

For most of my hunting rifles I use Winchester. The exceptions are the 9.3x62 (Lapua), 416 Rigby (Norma) and 470 NE (Jamison).

For BPCR shooting with my 45-70 I use Remington as it tends to be heavier when prepped than Winchester. For full house 45-70 I use nickel-plated cases to make sure that it is virtually impossible to feed them to my beloved Rolling Block, thus steering us clear of disaster.

Any thoughts or wisdom/ knowledge to share on reloading .308 nickel cases?
Any input would be appreciated.

I also have a massive horde of hornady .223 and .308 brass the head stamps state "match"
So I assumed it was good stuff hopefully once I buy all my reloading tools I won't be disappointed...

I think ellwood epps might sell norma brass, but I'm not 100% certain. Higginsons has browning head stamp norma brass in 300 wm.

I just got some of the browning/norma brass for my 300wm, I haven't got to try it out yet though. Other than that, I've had great luck with lapua. I have heard that RWS makes good brass too, I'm just not sure where to get it.

I reload them same as any other. I had a set of dies get scratched up in the neck once and thought it was the nickel cases I ran through it but it turned out to be grit from my lube pad. I since switched to Imperial sizing wax which I rub on with my fingers so I can feel for any grit. Haven't had a problem since.

The nickel coating (several manufacturers say it's not plating but a different process) does wear off eventually but doesn't usually flake off in my experience. The cases usually slowly turn from silver to gold coloured through use; usually in the web, head, and neck first. The coating somehow seems to make the brass more brittle so it'll crack a lot sooner than non-nickel cases. I reload them but keep them in separate batches from the non-nickel cases. They are more difficult to anneal since you can't see them turn blue.

I do find the Hornady match stamped cases to be better than their non-match cases. Hornady cases are all over the map in quality in my experience depending on the cartridge and which type of Hornady ammo it is. All the match stuff has been good to me so far. Quite consistent and strong.

Loading 30/06, 270 win, 308,243,204 and 300 sav at present .No dies for 30/30 yet. My new brass is all hornady. Can't seem to find rem anywhere.Going to get some Lapua for the 30/06,243 and 308

Norma can help with the 270w and the 204 for sure. Cannot with the others I think however
Cheers
