The scope will be mounted on a 308 target rifle.
I have been looking at the $800 Bushnell Elite 6500 4.5 - 30 X 50 Mil Dot and the $1800 Leupold Mark4 long range illuminated 6.5-25 X 50 Mil Dot(pricey)
What do you think?

Found a few here on Gunnutz that sells NightForce.
I'll see what my gunsmith thinks of them and what is involved in the mounting.
thanks

mounting a NightForce scope is the same as mounting any other brand scope. Just need proper ring sizes.

I'm for sure getting a NightForce scope next:)

I would call around right now on the availability i beleive ATR said they just made a purchase of them recently with our weak dollar and that his prices were going up, you may want to see who had them in stock and what their price is.
My vote is for Nightforce and to call Hirsch Precision Peter is a great guy and might have some in sotck when the dollar was close to par.

ok ok seeing it is your money i think you should get the March scope 10-60 or the new 5-32 and give a review.

Anyone that's suggesting a product other than Nightforce or Leupold is sitting too close to the dryer vent. Spend the money and get a top quality glass. I have a Nightforce 3.5-15x on my LE2B 308 and a Leupold Mk4 3.5-10x on my ATRS 300 WM. If you want more power a 5.5-20x NXS or 6.5-20x Leupold is just the ticket.

March scopes are a bit out of my price range. $2880 Canadian for the basic model. There is a article here about them.

I think I'll start with a Bushnell 6500 on the target rifle and go from there. Maybe later progress to a Leupold Mark 4 and transfer the 6500 to another gun. I've ordered 3 rifles so I can play a bit with the scopes, because none of them come with sights on them. All will have 30mm tubes though, more light for aging eyes.

There is a new buzz about what can be exported out of the states now. Heard mostly about rifles. Someone down there is sitting at their desk looking at a list, saying yup, nope as they go down the list. This is called job justifying! I wonder what the manufacturing companies think of this?

I use the Leupold MK4 scope you are intereseted in for long range shooting. Have the scope mounted on my 308 Rem 700P, my longest shot with it so far is 1030 M. Optical clarity is really nice, the illuminated mil dot is a nice thing to have just in case too. No problems with the parallax adjustment, turret adjustments are all positive ( no mushy feeling ), durable too as I've given it a few bumps so far. The only thing I don't like about the scope is that the turrets are in MOA and the reticle is in MILS, having both the same would be better. If I had to go back in time, I would have got the Nightforce for common turret and reticle units.

Another scope not commonly discussed is the new Sightron SIII LR in 6x24 or 8x32.

I have brought in the 24's w/mildots and the optics are superb. I can honestly compare them to NF, S&B, etc. I can compare them to Pentax ED spotting scope too. Pricing is also substantially less then these brands.

Lots of elevation adjustment so reaching out is not an issue. A variety of sites have done tests and the results have been very positive for mechanical function and optics. 6mmBR.com has an ongoing test on these scopes.

If you have the budget, there are quite a few excellent products that will work for you. The price difference is quite large despite their similarities.

Send me a PM if you have further questions.

Jerry

Forgot to mention that I am presently shooting to 1050yds with an Elite 4200 6x24 w/mildots and my Stevens 223 and 75gr Amax. I do need to use the third dot as my aiming point but isn't that what those dots are for?

Not ideal but works very well with superb optics and mechanicals for low dollars. Many options in the scope world now for shooting LR.
