Your Chosen #1 .22 Ammo and Why!

Blazer is 1st for me and Federal 525 bulk pack is second (at $21 a brick how can you complain?)

But I have yet to try all the different brands of 22 ammo. Maybe I should try the CCI next?

yea, i can- winchester 555 is 19.95 at wally( when it's in)- with MOST of the guns today, it doesn't seem to matter what you feed them, within reason- i still won't shoot any of that mexican aquila or russian stuff that uses lead bullets and looks like it's packed in bear grease- it's the older semi-autos that seem to be finicky in what you feed them- i've found cci ( esp the minimags) overpriced and never seen it in BRICKS

26.99/500 is cheap?

I stocked up at 18.50/525 early this year. 6 cases. Fed Champ 36gr HP.

~2000 round streak and counting without a single malfunction through my ST22 upper. About 3700 total through it right now.

For my .22 the best ammo seems to be the CCI Blazer. I buy the bulk packs of 525 rounds. It seems to be the best shooting out of my rifle. For my .22WMR CCI 40g JHP.

whatever a given gun shoots best. I have several cases of Champion 525's around, but it shoots miserably in my buckmark. I use it for some of my bolt guns. Winchester bulk works in the buckmark, and Stinger/Quik-Shok work amazingly well in a savage of mine.

Found some $19 blazer last year, bought a few bricks, working well but I don't shoot my .22s much.
Mini-mags are my favourite, and I've found a new local source for em, but not bothering to buy any. Lots of blazer still left.

For .22wmr, I'm shooting winchester, only because I bought a bunch of 50rd boxes for $5 each.

I have too many rimfires and not enough patience to find out what's best for each. I found what works best for my shooting (grab the gun that tickles me today) is to keep all my ammo the same and not worry about it. I typically use federal bulk packs and they work fine for me.

However, I realize that many people are fussier than that, which is fine too. Could I wring more performance from a particular firearm with a different ammo, probably. But using the same across the board means the ammo box remains simple.

It's a toss up between Blazer and AE roundnose.
If I only had one choice...Blazer.
I prefer the added bit of lube on the lead and they have given me near flawless performance.

Remington Thunderbolt and Remington Yellowjackets.
The Thunderbolt bullet tip can be cut flat to make a small game bullet. It is a fairly accurate round from my Nylon 66 but after thirty rounds the inside of the rifle is thickly coated in powder fouling. That is the downside to Thunderbolt.

So many answers possible with a question like that!!
Serious competition in a target rifle - Eley Match EPS or Lapua Center-X or RWS R50
Casual competition - Super Club or RWS Target rifle, SK Standard plus.
Plinking - CCI Blazer, Winchester 555 or 333, Eley practice, Federal bulk.
Each rifle is a rule to itself, so results vary a lot.
Use what works best in YOUR rifle.
Just remember, high quality ammo usually works best in high quality rifles.

Wow
33 post before some one like me that loves the Federal American Eagle 38gr HP. Guess a lot of folks don't care for the 400 rounds in a brick. I shoot a lot of CZ bolt guns and for the kind of shooting we do, most all of my CZ's shoot real well with this load. FS

Sounds like Blazer, Win 333/555 and Fed 525 bricks are in the lead!

As for Eley Target... once and never again. At almost 15 bucks for a box of 50, smelled like s**t, fouled badly, jammed once and had 3 missfires. Really bad batch? Bought it at Bass Pro about 6 months ago.

Remington Subsonics, because they are the most accurate out of the many types of 22 LR I have tried in my Ruger 10/22 and as a bonus they are not as loud as most either.
