Your experience on a cheap SKS

Cabelas has the Chinese SKS on Friday for 190+ tax.

It would have to be pretty bad to not be worth 190.

Anyone get one before online (I live more than a days drive away from their closest store) and how was it?

Have bought many from cabelas Regina and found some real gems...they have lots and let me pic through them.
You are rolling the dice buying online because you will never know what you will get.

Oddly enough I was in Bass Pro in Moncton NB last week but they had made a decision to not stock SKS - despite having a really good selection of other guns around.

For $190 bucks you could take a chance...I am sure you will get a very serviceable rifle...just won’t be numbers matching unless you get real lucky.

When I bought my last Chinese SKS from cabelas I picked the forth one I looked at. I trust they would all function but the wood on some were severely beat and or cracked. Two that I handed back to gun counter where marked for return to supplier for a tapco-ing. I felt bad for those rifles, they don't deserve a full tapco-ing just a little more work than I was willing to put in.

I have owned several cheap sks's. They weren't all pretty but they all worked great.

they all go bang
they all shot 7.62x39

any sks should work fine
those stamped #1 on the front sight may be better, but not guaranteed

It's $190 not $2000 dollars. my question is have you seen the price of a crappy pellet rifle lately ? $149 or so . so for another $41 dollars plus shipping and lets not forget the taxes you have a real rifle . and I'll bet it goes bang .

i had a choice of paying an extra $25 for a "D" and instead chose the regular for $99. they dont make the "D" anymore so look at the difference now.

Buy them while they are here. Every firearm owner must have at least one sks. They are amazing.

those stamped #1 on the front sight may be better, but not guaranteed

The numbers 1, 2, or 3 on the sks front sight are not accuracy numbers. They are circumference sizing numbers (like ring sizes).


For the ease of function, serviceability, reliability, availability of parts and cheap ammo, and price (even in the US), the sks is at the top of the list.
