Hey everyone!

So it's been a few years since I've done trap and skeet. Now that I've bought some land, I'm looking at doing clay pigeon shooting on my property. So the million dollar question is what to get? I know it's personal preference, but some advice from people who've had more experience would be appreciated! When I shot trap and skeet, I started off with a Benelli Super Nova. It served me well, but to be honest I never saw it as a "pretty" gun. Everyone at the club had super expensive over/under guns and I was the guy with the pump Benelli. So my question starts off with what advantages are there getting a o/u vs. a semi? Next, do you really have to spend an arm and a leg to get a decent gun? For example, I came across a Fausti NWTF o/u that seems like a very nice o/u, but I can't find any details online about it. Does anyone have any experience with these? What advantage would I have with another brand? I know that I'm pretty vague at this point, but I'm trying to narrow down what I should be looking for. Oh, and now that I've spent all my money on my new property, I'm on a pretty tight budget and therefore looking at best bang for my buck versus the Cadillac of all guns. Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Informal clay shooting on your property.

What you are going to use as a machine to throw the clays would be more of a consideration as opposed to the gun I'd be using to shot them with. On a budget so take it your not planing to build your own trap or skeet range?

Shotgun of choice of brand and action and a Trius thrower and go at it.

something with a decent length barrel. my buddy was hitting clays with a bolt action shotgun he picked up for $25. so price doesnt really matter. not sure on rules and regs if u were to get into formal shooting though

Since it's on your own land, and nobody can see it anyway, whats wrong with your Benelli. Since you seem to be on at least some sort of a budget I would stick to your Benelli and invest in a nice clay thrower. From information I've read, Fausti shotguns are a decent gun if you decide to go that route.

I probably should have mentioned that I traded in my Benelli some time ago since I knew I wasn't going to be using it, that's why I'm looking for something different. Serves me right for not keeping every gun I've ever bought! :D

If you are just going to be doing informal clays shooting on your property and you want an over/under, I think for the price the CZ over/unders would be a good choice. If you were going to get into high volume shooting, then you might want to think of a bit of a higher quality gun. Now if you were planning on doing any waterfowl hunting and only have one gun, I would probably go with a semi-auto.

Don't bother with a inexpensive o/u. It'll be more hassle than its worth. Something CZ level or above is what you should look at if you really feel the need for an o/u. However for what you're planning on doing - I'd get a nice semi.

I'd say pick up a used Citori or 325/425/525/625/725 type gun.

A good used 325/425/525 or 625 would be my choice in a Browning.
A good used 686 Beretta would also work.

Going back a few years, an original Winchester 101 or an SKB 500/600 would also provide good service
at a reasonable cost, although they may have fixed chokes. A 30" F/M choked O/U would serve just fine
for what you describe.
