I have made more than my share of stalks on game... but in this case we are talking about using an item that costs under ten bucks that takes seconds to use and can help in marginal situations... if hunters just don't want to be bothered that is fine, but some day that decision may cost you, I hope it is not on your "buck of a lifetime." As I said above, I didn't bother with covering my face this season and I got busted by a doe... If that had been a 180 class buck, I would be kicking my ass right now with regret.

If I was to go with camo I would definitely prefer a mask over grease paint
I have to admit I have looked at Gilly Suit for spear hunting deer but haven brought myself to try it out

I spend the majority of the time stalking deer rather than hunting from a stand and have been within 10-15 yards many times. In the early stages of learning this skill I rarely wore a mask or camo sunglasses and I can tell you for a fact that deer definitely notice your eyes moving or blinking at such close distance. I've even played with smaller deer on occasion and side-side eye movement when they're aware of your presence and staring at you will result in the deer head bobbing to try and figure out what you are or they'll simply trot off.
I now wear a mask and low glare camo sunglasses and they definitely help. When you're getting that close to deer you need all the help you can get to not get busted.

How do deer signal "danger" to each other ? They flash the white tail up ... which kinda looks like your white face in the bush . Busted and they're gone . I use a light mesh camo mask , actually a camo bug net . I had two does spot me last week and walk from 60 yards to about 10 yards trying to figure out what i was . The wind was in my favor . The lead doe went straight leg and stomped her feet as i fired pics . Very unlikely that would have happened had my white face been sticking out signalling danger .
At this time of year just need a deer call spot a doe and work the call no stocking necessary because you know there's a buck hiding just out of sight

one way to tell is go sit in yer stand or blind
get someone to look from a distance
if they can see you and yer face then the deer and game can as well

Wouldn't really help conceal eye movement and blinking...
One thing that needs to be taken into consideration with these types of conversations is the area you hunt. There's a huge difference between hunting in open area's vs stalking deer in bush that's thick enough a bare face almost glows against the the backdrop and you'd be lucky to make a 25 yard shot.

I always cover my face with something in the stand, even if it's just a blaze orange ski mask. All I want to do is lose "the shine" and look less like a Human Bean.
For duck hunting, of course, mask/face paint is not even a question. You need it in the blind. If you're jump shooting, obv not needed. Some of my best jump shoots came while wearing a blaze orange hat

My thoughts, as well. I don't bow hunt but I have had deer at distances of FEET from me. Wind, calls, location. No Camo. No face paint (can't STAND the stuff!), no mask. I wear a "mask" when it's cold and the wind is blowing in my face, called a balaclava. I try to site stands and blinds with decent, natural backdrops. I do, however, wrap Camo burlap from the rail of my tree stands to hide movement from feet or hands (I read while on stand in the daylight, and my wife is fidgety.
