I owned a brand new Model 80 by Colt. Piece of turd.
I own a Springfield 1911. Occasional smokestak, not sure if itès a mag problem, ammo or the gun itself.
I own a Para LDA .40. I've dared this damn thing to jam/smokestack or otherwise fluck up. NUTHIN'
Colt..... pre series 70 government models and real deal USGI 1911's and 1911A-1's.... [and authorized WWII USGI clones.... US&S, Rem-Rand, Ithaca].............

I only own two 1911's. A Para SSP and a slightly customized Colt SS Series 80 Mk IV. Out of the two I own I'd have say Colt. It may rattle more than the Para but she's built like a tank and equally accurate and reliable. An uber production 1911 is on my wishlist and I'm teetering between a Nighthawk Custom, Wilson or Ed Brown.....so many choices, so little cash.
over the years, have had colt series 70's (least favourite - late 70's manufacture year - never forgave colt for that piece of sh*t), but the ones that were great include springfield 1911, smith 1911 stainless, and a couple of raceguns built on caspian frames, but my favourite is the valtro, paid $1300 used from p&d a couple of years ago, picked out and recommended by Chris there, can't thank him enough.
Love my Colt National Match.
Hope to own a Dan Wesson soon.
Favourite 1911 still comes from Hartford though. I think the new guns are very good and worth a look. The Colt slide to receiver fit is very much on purpose.
