The 10/22 was the first "real" firearm I ever owned. It was in stock configuration (still is), I have never had any issues with it and was a lot of fun with Butler Creek mags (until they became prohib). Been rock solid reliable for me and will always have a sentimental connection.

Older Butler Creek mags that were manufactured prior to the advent of the Charger pistol are only prohibited by RCMP opinion. Literally impossible for them to have been designed for a pistol that didn't exist yet. Apparently there was an internal bulletin basically saying only to charge folk for having them if they're facing other charges or something along those lines, if I'm recalling correctly.

I own the 10/22, the Marlin 795, Cooey/Lakefield/savage64 and multiple GSG16s
All are great rifles but we all fight to shoot the GSG16s. Sure its "Plastic Fantastic" but my original GSG16 has almost shot thru a 5000 case of CCI minimags with no issues (still going strong).
Stock trigger is nicer on the GSG than any of the others. Non reciprocating charging handle, ergonomic safety location, pistol grip trigger housing.

My kids absolutely love it and gets them out shooting.

If looking for a seriously fun shooter at the range to go and blast a few hundred rounds with friends, the GSG16 all the way

I really like the top one. Build details if you care to share?

Yupp. They were given instructions to only lay charges for them if there are other charges being laid at the same time. Someone posted the memo on CGN, no idea if it's still around though.

Literally anything but a 10/22. I’ve had great experience with the marlin semis. My 1950s nylon 66 is a dream. I’ve had great experiences with the 597 and they’re designed to fit an adult. Love those last shot hold opens. I’ve even had good luck with mossberg plinksters and the Henry survival rifle.

Always loved tube fed .22's. I have 2 Marlin 60's and 2 Mossberg 46 tube fed bolt rifles. I guess my Rossi 92 in 357 and Win 1894 (99yrs old) in .30-30 also help foster my tube mag addiction.....nevermind my seven pump and semi auto shotties....

!0/22 Reliable, easy to clean, accurate enough for my needs, I've owned three in the past 25 years and still have my second one, only problem I've ever had that I didn't cause myself was one was ammo picky but just needed the hook on the extractor reprofiled. And I've put at least 10-15 bricks through them.

1. Remington 552, just a great rifle all around. 2. Nylon 66 with tubular mag; Hunted racoon with mine, killed over 1000, and it never missed a beat. 3. Stainless Marlin 60 with grey composite stock... I just like the look of them.

^^^ This ^^^

you have a young/new shooter and you want them to get excited about coming to the range. Break out the GSG-16 with red dot.
even the adults smile and do a mag dump

its usually bookends my day at the range. Its the 1st gun we shot and the last gun we shoot.

You want tight groups at 100 yards pick something else.
You want a line up at the bench with people fighting to be next next in line

I have had many semi auto .22's . I must say I'm surprised your first 3 options were all 10/22 ! I found them to be just plain boring , and I support this observation with your second choice of options.
" 10/22 because of its aftermarket ". You should not have to spend hundreds of dollars on aftermarket parts to make your gun the way you want it , or to keep up with the "what's in fashion this week with the 10/22 club " I realize that this has made a lot of people a lot of money , and practically started a whole new branch of the industry ,and even created jobs . But , I will just stick with buying guns I actually like , and guns that come acceptable from the factory , according to my personal taste , and liking . I don't feel the need for a certain gun , just because it's the gun with the most threads on the net about "builds".
I have owned several 10/22's. I liked them ok. They didn't jam. I sold them all.
I did get a big kick out of your 3rd option ! ...... "10/22 for other reasons (please detail below)" Uh Ohhhhh , Your starting to get bored with them too. LOL.
As for what my favorite is ? I have 3 here , that I am partial to , more so than most. The Browning BAR .22 , the Beretta Olympia , and a Gevarm A3. They all just make me smile .

I did that so I could try to tease out how many people like the 10/22 primarily due to its aftermarket. As you can see from the poll results, that is a major driving force behind its popularity - seems not a lot of people are buying them based on their reputation as a good gun, rather they're buying them because of what they can become thanks to the robust aftermarket. (of course that's some editorializing on my part)
