Your Favorite cartridge?

I just want to try something new.
Slow them down to 2400fps and see what happens.
I know lots of hunters in Europe shoots Roe deer with 9.3x62,
heavy and slow, there is not to much of a damage.
Slow is good :)
Slow is good! Velocity ruins meat!

Wht not use a conventional Hornady 220gr or a 200gr Speer? NPs are expensive.

I can't believe nobody said the good ol' Win 30-30 !!!!! I guess I just like the classics. The cartridge is cheap. It's got more than enough power to stop a deer, but not so much as to waste half the meat. My specfic preference is 170g soft points. Best served up in my Winchester Ranger model 94 lever action. It's a little longer than the trapper for accuracy, but not too long to be easially carried in dense bush and I've never had it jam.

I own the usual 30cals-308, 30-06 but they are more tools than fun guns. My fave is the 223 in a Ruger no 1. Falling blocks of any kind are just too much fun and the 223 is cheap and fun to shoot. Gonna use it for varmints this year too and that will just kick ass big time. A 22 with attitude and no more problems with reach. Life is good long as Im shooting. Mind you, I just picked up a Savage 99c in 308 and it might just become a fave too. Sure shoots nice.

My big game rifle that is first pick out of the sfe is my 7mm STW on a sako hunter. I picked it up used a long time ago when factory ammo was not available. p.s. boomer Ilove your rifle. I have one just like it in .378 wby. on a 602 brno. my buddy had a Mark 5 wby. and one day while we were standing around on his folks farm, he handed me the rifle and said to me Dave put three rounds into that stump over there as quick as you can. I hit the stump three times at 20 yards and said to myself oh ya got to have one of these. I am sure I was only 26 years old back then. when you hit a moose with a .378 wby. it don't really matter where you hit him, he is going down. He is a hurting machine. for a few years my buddy hunted everything with his .378 and I remember one occasion when we had to shoot a young doe for his mother inlaw (that is all she wanted). when we came up to the poor thing it was already field dressed for the most part.

Your Favorite Cartridge

I would have to go with the 7X57 in a Riger No 1 AB Model, and 7mm08 in my light barrel Remington 700 BDL. They don't kick the crap out of me, and I can hunt from my truck.

My other 7X57's are:
21H Brno
Custom Commercial Mauser
Remington Rolling Block
The rest are military 7X57's (12 or 15)

.444 marlin is my favorite. I do like this cartridge and the fact that it has put more meat on the table than any other only strengthens the friendship . the fact that the straight cases can be loaded like a .410 shell only puts more meat on my table and makes me like it more. The 7.62x54 is going to get it's chance this year to put some meat on the table thus improving it's status but if it gets to be later in the season and there isn't venison in the freezer my old friend is coming out .

favorite cartrige

For deer and smaller game 257 Weatherby with 110 accubonds or 115 partitions, for larger game my 7mm RM does the rest with 160 gr accubonds. For all round hunting I do if one gun was all I had it would be my Win. featherweight in 270 WSM with 140gr TSX or accubonds.

Tough to choose a favourite....mine is the .280 Remington. Currently only available in bolt rifles (I think), but can be found used in pumps, autos and singles. It will handle anything I care to hunt, from coyotes to moose. My particular rifle, an A-Bolt, is accurate with factory ammo and handloads, and recoil is relatively modest. According to Dave Petzal, shooting editor of Field and Stream, it and the .270 Winchester combine the greatest amount of killing power with the least amount of recoil we have. I wouldn't say that's carved in stone, but neither would I argue.

Of the cartridges I've never owned (yet!) and am itching to try, it's the .260 Remington. Anything that duplicates the best Swede loads using factory ammo? It's probably one of the most practical cartridges for the average deer hunter introduced in the past 20 years.

8x57. Have one in a Rem 700 with a 21" stainless Lilja medium barrel with a HS presision stock and a 3.5-10x Leopold vx3. It is an awsome all around gun, a little heavy for the ideal bush gun but I'm young and strong so it dosn't bother me. It will cleanly take any game I hunt for at any range I can shoot. I also have a Husky 8x57 and a Styre 8X57. I would also pick the .270win, 30-06, 6.5x55, 308win, 7x57.

Favourite cartridge? Got two.

45-70 Gov't. H&R Buffalo Classic. Toooooo much fun to shoot with either jacketed or cast.

405 Winchester is another blast to shoot. Ruger #1H.

And here's how she shoots the 300 grainers at 100 yards -- MV 2450 fps

But the 300 WinMag or the 30-06 get the call for killing stuff until this year. We'll see. ;)
