I like it in 9.3x74, but only because that's the one I have. I grew up hunting with a #1 in 7mag, and I might have to literally pry that out of my dad's cold dead hands. If I were ever to get into the 35 Whelen game, I would want it in a Ruger #1.

My dad gave his (non-scoped) 30-06 to my nephew. Nephew keeps sending me texts of the moose he is racking up with it. I suspect he will never get rid of the gun his Grampa gave him. A 7x57 Mauser would please me all to heck.

But, when they came out, clay had one of his no tax free shipping events on and as a regular I could have picked my rifle.....
I find the ones at epps pedestrian and overpriced..... and yes, "overpriced" is relative term as in "if you really want it and it's rare, how much would you pay"..... but I only want one Ruger #1 in the collection, and I already passed on an extremely fine example in .257 Roberts because it wasn't "perfect"....

I'm not sure which particular chambering is my favorite, but I'd really like to get one in a medium bore chambering of some type and leave it open sighted as I personally think the style of rifle looks better without optics, along the lines of a typical lever rifle.
I'd be happy with a 375 H&H, 45/70, 35 Whelen, 450/400, etc. I'm thinking a #1 H is hopefully going to be my next firearm purchase, I have developed a real hankering for a falling block rifle.

You and me both! I'd sell a...whatever! I was really tempted by the .44mag, but I think the Casull or either the .460 or .500 S&W would have been a home-run! I know I'd be about $2k poorer if they had made one in one of those calibers.
