Your honest opinion on Kel-tec KSG?

I have many shotguns, Fabarm, TacOrd 870, KSG, Benelli, etc.

All good, the KSG is fun for blasting and hasn't let me down yet. Aim point in top, no issues with recoil or accuracy. For what's it's worth, don't just let the haters change you mind.

I bought mine in a whim, and the only reason I'm considering selling it is in conjunction with a Glock and a Fabarm STF-12 to raise funds for a new TacOrd Versamax.

ONE thing I don't think I read through out this entire thread which HOLDS VERY TRUE.......

Go to various gun stores ie.. Cabelas, Wholesale Sports, BassPro, Local Gun Shops ect... and shoulder various brands and styles. I personally do not prefer the 870 for the simple fact I can't stand where the safety is... I prefer the Mossbergs, where the safety is ontop where my thumb can snap it on or off. So in all honesty, get out there and see what feels best for YOU. There are a lot of valid points here. Some people buy a shotgun based on "cool" factor alone. Others buy them for duck hunting..

IF you "want" a short shotgun with collapsible stock ect.. sky is the limit now a days. Two most popular shotguns in the world have to be either Mossberg, or Remington...

That is very true. When it finally comes to actually buying the gun I will for sure go to various stores and test them out before. Every pistol I own now I actually had either shot them before or has a 99.9% air-soft replica that I also had been shooting for a while. But yes I am new to shotguns and I haven't got a lot of experience in them. I think you guys are awesome providing your opinions. Really appreciate that guys!!!

One question for the Grizzly ... it appears the mag feed version has lots of problem, is that true? Also from Civil Advantage's video Rod said you can actually change the fore-end and stock with aftermarket Rem parts... with some TLC as he shown. I don't mind getting the Grizzly 12.5" non-mag version. However, I really like a vertical grip I hope that is do-able right out of the box or with a fore-end update.

Yup. Any 870 forend will fit. Ya, i'd stay away from the mag feds. Plastic shells and a heated up gun have never seemed like a good combo to me. Seems like they could warp under the vertical spring pressure. Maybe im just paranoid tho. I've never owned a magfed

The one I have works flawlessly, I have even shot skeet with it, did well enough, with it being short it is harder to aim at moving objects, but that is a physical limitation. The only thing I wish it did have is a better front grip, your hand is very close to the front of the barrel.

This S&J sling plate/hand stop helps alleviate that problem. I use it on my 12.5" DA for that reason.

I would like a ksg but the price is bonkers.
I have a uts 15 and it's neat and cost under $700 tax in shipped. No problems at all racking the pump, it's a gen 3

My go to shotgun is my 870 wingmaster though, that thing is just beautiful and super smooth
I also had dominion arms grizzly and it's a solid gun too, no issues and a fantastic price
No problems with the mag fed grizzly either, but they can be more finicky

Why is it bonkers? UTS were very $$$ when they came out, ridiculous price. Now they are more affordable I suppose, and the KSG could be a bit cheaper, but I wouldn't call it ridiculous given our last 10 years of pricing around all firearms in Kanuckistan.

I like mine, I really do, no failure ever, points nice, triggers not great but not bad, puts slugs on target every time. But everyone has a different experience with each serial number. I had 2 Grizzly guns that were absolute junk. fail to feed, fail to go bang, fussy on ammo, and lots of tool marks. Yours were good to go by the sounds of it. There are always lemons.

To me, the UTS is just HUGE in stature compared to the KSG, and I think thats why the price was dropped to get them to sell.

They really appear large, some may handle them and feel too large. I personally found it to be perfect fit for me. Again, boils down to actually shouldering a rife ect... My buddy has a RFB. He likes it. I found it way to heavy and awkward. Each to their own I guess.

I totally agree. I found it too big to fit in my backpack, and thats what I meant. Just physically too large for a packable 12 gauge, unlike the KSG which is much smaller dimensionally.

I ended up pulling the trigger on a Mossberg Maverick 88 Security (shorter version) from Wanstalls this morning after I found that there is a conversion kit to put a drum mag and change the fore-end + stock for it ( and they are selling it too). Ok it is a non-restricted so it should arrive pretty soon. If I found the barrel too short for the recoil I guess I can always add a longer 88 or 500 barrel.

Maverick 88 was the first gun I ever purchased - no regrets. The shotgun won't die and handles everything.

This is my second KSG, both of them have worked flawlessly.
Gen 2 ...in O.D. green

I own a mag fed grizzly.. bought on sale from can ammo. Was skeptical about the mag fed but liked having the idea to legally have a loaded shotgun in a matter of seconds. I have roughly 500 rounds mostly cheap stuff.. Not one jam or issue.. I also want a ksg now..

Although I already bought a Mossberg I still think KSG and the UTS looks really cool. I also contacted a US company for making pulp conversion kits for Mossberg; however they said I cannot buy them because they are illegal to own in Canada... Why's that? From what I see the overall length after conversion kit is still over 26 inches?

How's the KSG and UTS perform in competition btw? Loading seems a bit slower compare to typical 12g.

Bullpup stocks are specifically prohibited, in the same way over capacity mags are. By that I mean that they do not transform the class (ie: Non-restricted to prohibited) of the firearm they themselves are attached to, but rather that they are prohibited by them selves.

The bullpups we have are because they are not in a "stock" but rather the bullpup design is a factory produced chasis that the firearm can not function with out. The bullpup style is integrated into the desighn of:
-IWI Tavor Tar-21
-IWI Tavor x95
-Norinco T97
-QBU Type 88
-Bushmaster M17s
-FNH FS2000
-FNH PS90
-Keltec RFB
-Keltec KSG
-UTAS UTS-15
-Lever Arms LA-K12 Puma
-Desert Tech SRS A1
-Walther WA2000
-DSR-50
-GM6 Lynx
-Berett M99

And I am sure there is a few more.

Basically the law intention was to ban all future bullpups, however luckily for us some idiot wrote the word stock after bullpup, resulting in a specific ban on bullpup stocks.

With regards to KSG loading speed, yes it is quite slow as you can only do 1 at a time. It can also be more dangerous as it is easier to sweep someone while loading if you cradle it upside down but forward, which will result in the muzzle pointing behind you. For this reason I hate mine because it is hard to be quick/effective and safe too. This is where I feel the UTAS beats the KSG, but the KSG is just so much smaller feeling.

How about a 12.5" Dominion Arms Grizzly from CanAm?

I have one with the ghost rings and it's the most reliable gun I've ever owned. Tube fed. The only things I swapped when I first bought it was a better follower and spring, a heavy sear spring and the oversized safety. I throw on a short Hogue stock and a surefire grip. Thousands of rounds of all kinds of rounds including flares etc and not a single failure to fire or feed/eject. It's my bush/camp gun for a reason.

I traded my KSG, I regretted ever since. I may be trading for another one, despite all the valid points made here I would take one over any of the listed alternatives here, I have had quite a few and they just didn't have that smile inducing effect on me. I'm not saying it's a better gun, I wanted one the first time I saw one, it's never worn off.
