Your impressions of P226 certified pre-owned

They seem to vary quite widely. Some look to be pretty close to a new gun, others seem pretty dodgey cosmetically, but I guess they have been "certified" to be good to go.
One thing about CPOs... in my view, unless you can get one for less than $800 (In my view they should be $500-and-something, like they are in the U.S.), I think you are better off getting a new one. I can't really accept paying 90% of the new price for a gun that has been used, maybe abused, maybe not, carried around in a holster for years, refurbed and sold into private hands. A $550 CPO 226- good deal. A $900 CPO 226
Save the tax by buying an old cop gun? No way.
There are lots of anectdotes about CPOs on here. Peoples experiences with them seem to vary. A friend of mine bought one and the rear sight was completely loose and you could push it right out with your fingers. He took it to a gunsmith and got it fixed with new sights, but the $100 (or whatever) he saved over buying new pretty much went up in smoke right there.

The CPO's I look at looked to be pretty good. I'm sure they would have shot well. I owned a CPO Sig P220 in 9mm that I bought from a CGN'er who put a couple thousand rounds through it and then sold it to me. Not a problem with it whatsoever but ghostie's advice is rock solid. Questar's current price on a new P226 is 993.75 wheras a local store has the CPO P226 for 895.00 but for that price you also get some faded tritium night sights. It's a no brainer, buy new......

Thats wath i tought too, but if you click on the CanadaAmmo link up there, you will see that they advertise them at 699$. Thats 300$ difference, do you think it worth it? I don't know, maybe i'm better save more money and buy a new one. A local shop has a P226 NAVY NIB at 1000$, but here in Québec i will have to ad about 13% of F**cking taxes. if i buy the piece in... say Ontario, it's only 5%...
