I am planning on hunting Mule and Whitetail deer, Moose and Elk this year. I have 3 rifles getting eady for action.

The light rifle is a Ruger M77 chambered for .250 Savage. It will be ready for action with 120gr Partitions at ~2800 fps.

The medium rifle is a Steyr-Mannlicher Luxus in 7mm RM. That rifle launches 175gr Partitions right at 3000fps.

The heavy rifle is a Tikka T3 Lite in .338 Win Mag. It will be loaded with 250gr Partitions and should be just over 2700fps.

I still have lots of range time ahead of me, so it should be fun. I'm really looking forward to this season. The nice thing is that any of the three will get the job done on any of the game I will be encountering - some with more authority than others! On the other hand I could just replace all three with a .30/06 and 180gr Core-Lokts!

Have you decided on which rifle will come out of the safe for this season?

my parkerhale 30-06 is my go to. i have a H&R slug gun i would like to try on a mule deer.

Deer / Elk rifle : M77 Ruger Gunsight Scout in .308 running 168 gr handloads at 2600-2700 fps.

Elk / Moose rifle : Marlin 45-70 guide with 400 gr handloads pushing 2000-2100 fps - just need to load up slow & safe (big kaboom loads)

As usual, I'll be using .303British, but I'm getting old and now have a teenaged hunting partner to keep up with so am less inclined to lug my full-stock No.4. This year I bought a Parker Hale Supreme conversion of a No.4 off xcaribooer so that will be coming out first. I will probably put the .308 barrel on my Handi-Rifle (originally a .223 Superlight) for a few outings, too.

My cz858 comes out occasionally aswell. And I have been meaning to shoot a deer with my grandpa's old 1892 win 44-40 (mfg 1895)

I will be hunting Elk, whitetail and Mule Deer this year.

I'll be using my LSS model 700 in 300 RUM loaded with 180 accubonds at 3350 fps for elk and possibly on some mule deer hunts. No they aren't bullet proof but it is my most accurate rifle.

I'll be using my .270 Winchester model 700 for white tail does and some mule deer hunts. Its not the greatest shooting rifle but it is nice and light.


I am trying to get my Model 70 super grade in 7mm rem mag ready for some use but I am behind on my load development. I can see this rifle taking over as my all around hunting rifle if it turns out to shoot well.

Put the Tikka away. You won't need it for anything on your list as the 7mm Rem Mag is more than adequate for Elk and Moose.

I will be using the Model 94 XTR AE in .307 and the 1895 in 45-70 as we hunt in close quarters here in the bush.

Only hunting WT deer this fall, using a Sako 85 in .308Win with 150gr. Barnes TSX. No idea how fast they go, I don't have a chrony but the rifle likes them and they group tight.

Haven't fully decided yet, I never seem to do untill that very morning, they are all ready and set to go, I guess it just depends on which one calls my name the loudest. If I had to take a guess at this point, it would be my Browning A-bolt Micro Medallion in 7mm-08 or my Sako A7 in the same cartridge or my Stainless Stalker in 260.

Steyr Model L in 308 for deer and a toss-up between the SBS in 270 WSM or the Model S in 7 mm rem Mag for moose.

make sure you dont attach the clip to the floorplate "Two Dogs" when road hunting, LOL.
