Your Milsurp Hunting Rig, Post em!

I love the military rifles for hunting. The first deer I nailed was with a nice No.4 Lee Enfield and (if I do say so myself) a nice one shot kill at about 150 yds. with open sights. Being much older now, most everything has glass on it. I recently sold my Steyr M95M in 8MM, but I still have my SKS for tight in work, and my sporter Lee Enfield for longer range. I fabricated my own scope mounts for the both of them, and they work just fine.

Poor man's "Enemy at the gates". I don't recall the year or plant ; it's got the arrow in the tri-angle stamp.
Sewer-pipe bore with an ATI scope mount/bent bolt & Barsk scope. And yeah; I Bubba'd it...in hindsight at least I didn't ruin a valueable rifle.
Shot that buck at 200-250 paces through 3 rows of trees.

Who says these old rifles are worthless? I love them and they're extremely practical . The young Lady wasn't shooting that was she? My Girlfriend is 5'1" and weighs 110 pounds, She looks like she is going to fall over when she holds up my Mosin. Your Daughter doesn't look to large either.


The Arrow and triangle is from the Izhevsk Armory in Russia. Probably a rebuild from 1942 or 1943. Lots of these on the market right now. Mostly laminate stocks and can have factory rebuild stamps from several armories. Nothing overly valuable or collectible ( as with mine), but still very pretty to look at and lots of fun to shoot.

Yeah, the scope thing. I'm being torn in two directions. I love iron sight shooting and always have, but I'm finding my eyes are not working as well as they did 30 years ago. I suspect I'll be looking for a solution in the near future. I just don't want to alter or damage the rifles in any part or form.

I didn't say it was worthless; friend. But if it had been an extremely rare unit I'd have felt more regret than I do now.
And nope she hasn't shot it yet; the SKS she has. I told her she needs to be able to shoot better before the real thing. Steel plates are one thing; gutshot deer are another

I cringed when I saw it. Each to is own I guess, but id rather see a 90$ sportered enfield have a scope mounted to it rather than a mint condition M94 carbine:(:(

Not quite, the rifle is a professionally converted sporter done sommetime in the 1920's in Germany, original Zeiss scope and qdd see through mounts. It came as a cased take down and I paid £900 for it. It was valued by the dealer handling the sale at my end as at Least £1500 worth. A fair few of the carbines were sold to officers and never were service rifles. I suspect as this one escaped the 1914 bayonet mount abortion that this is one of them.

Well you did ask, its snot a Bubba but professionally done, sadly no makers name for the conversion but its beautiful and so far from Bubba that I consider it to be as smart as the best Lee Speed I have ever seen but not in the same class as a Rigby which was built on an Obendorf action!

So you can see the regulated flip express sight and the mounts fitted. I wanted to get an M94 but the only untouched one had a bore like a drain pipe and bullets flew sideways at 10 yards.
I know its not original but get over it, as a sporter conversion its tasteful compared to a lot I see and originally done for a job. By the way Euro mounts? I hope you mean those superb QD claw mounts!
Anyone is welcome to come over and take a deer or 3 with it!
 
It probably loses a fair bit of energy from such a short barrel but the privi 139 grain factory stuff has put paid to a Roe Buck and Fallow Pricket this season, its no hill rifle but lovely and light for the woods!

It does, XS scout mount, epoxies on. It's a dandy set up, I highly recommend it.

Thanks, I think what helps is the professional way it takess down, thw wood and barrel are uncut, lets face it there was little wrong with the original carbine but some European Gentleman decided it would be a lovely cased woodland stalking rifle and that is how it ended up like that. If you look at some of the UK auction house websites you may often see 6.5 MS rifles with (what most would agree are) true take downs in cases, switch barrel type affairs etc. it was very popular in its time and I'm rather pleasedd to be its owner at the moment. Should I sell it I would like it to go where it will be used for stalking. I did that with my Rigby, I fitted a wartime era scope for the new owner after replacing the Nickel with a Zeiss Victory. He wanted it to look right. As he is a good client we may end up alongside each other in the new year on some scottish hillside!
