What do you have for a peep sight on you model 94 angle eject with the screw holes on top? I have delt with skinner sights before but thought I would ask what others are using.

I have the original buckhorn. I have great difficulty seeing the target at 100m. Maybe a live animal would make a difference. I am looking at buying a Williams FP soon and see if that makes a difference

my one and only 94 30-30 that I have left is not drilled and tapped for the Williams pep site. There was a discussing here somewhere quite a while back. It seems that I'd be ruining the hell right out of it if I was to drill and tap it! My old eyes really need the peep site. I have decided to go ahead and get it done anyway, rather than looking for another pre '64 that already has the holes. It's my rifle and what the hay, it's only a 4-5 hundred dollar rifle.

Mine is a 80's vintage with the holes on top of the receiver. I understand why people wouldn't want to tap a pre 64 but I also understand why you would tap YOUR rifle.

Now why would you drill and tap an old 94 OR any gun when you don't have to?
Buy a "Tang sight" and you remove the two screw on the top of the stock behind the hammer, put the new sight on and secure it with the two new screws that come in the package.

So easy you'll wonder why you would have ever considered drilling.

Pre-64 M94 carbine.
-Williams Fool Proof receiver rear peep
-Williams Firesite optical bead in the front (about one third smaller then factory brass bead)
-factory original rear sight removed and replaced with a 3/8s blank filler

This is exactly the way I set up my 94 Winchester. Even my old eyes let me shoot under 2 moa on a good day.

My 1950s Win 94 came to me with a steel Lyman 66 receiver sight with target knobs. It was drilled and tapped after delivery as they weren't doing that quite yet when mine was built. My Marlin 444 has a Williams Fool Proof with slot hunting adjusters. Both are excellent and I would not hesitate to d&t an angle eject to fit one. However many lever guys like the Skinner a lot. Often matching it with the FireSight front for low light performance.

For your rifle there is a cantilevered receiver sight based on the Fool Proof but it is a clumsy looking affair to my eye. The side piece normally screwed to the receiver floats in the air and attached to a bridge like affair.

Many would consider it foolish but a low power scope would work well too.
