Please tell me what 22mag ammo shoots best in your rifle and what the rifles is. I will try all that is out there but just looking for what you folks have found works best. I don't use my 22mag for hunting so wound balistics, I don't care about. I have a Savage 93 FVSS with a Vortex HD 4x16x50 on it.

All my ammo is more accurate than I am, however I recently had great results with Win 555 bulk in a handgun, so I'll say that kind.

Back when I was trying hard with rifles on a bench, I had best results with Wildcat in my 10/22. This was late 90s, and I don't think wildcat is the same thing anymore based on what people around here say about it. I also didn't have my son's Cooey, which I'm pretty sure is more accurate than the Ruger.

I still have some of that old wildcat. Maybe I'll run a test of old vs new...

Sound slike you are talking about 22lr not 22wmr like the rest of us are

There's alot more said of this partial statement.
The vast majority of accuracy depends on the shooter ...then the condition of the rifle.
It's a known fact that some rifles do have a tendency to shoot a certain type of ammo better than others but take two rifles of the same manufacture and one will be more finiky than the other over ammo types. You just can't tell until you try it.
My Marlin 25mn will shoot the same nomatter the ammo yet my Rem597mag likes MaxiMag's the best but will shoot Dynapoints very well too.
When it come to hunting Dynapoints are use in both .
I'm quite happy with that.
The only advice I would share is to try different types of ammo to see if there is a difference...and have fun.
Thats the whole idea , right ?

I have a Savage 93FV, and it shoots Hornady 30gr. V-Max best. I've tried every ammo I could get my hands on too...trust me. :) My rifle will shoot a 1" group from about 2/5 times in perfect conditions off a rest. Never any smaller, usually about 1-1/4".

Pretty much the same experience as .22LRGUY...except my 93FVSS prefers the Remington Accutip by a slim margin over the Hornady V-Max.
And same as him, realistically 1.5" at 100m is good shooting if the gun is not benched.
People who claim sub 1moa with .22WMR are either failing to mention their shooting off a leadsled or some such...or are counting that 1 out of 10 grouping as 'average' ;-)

Or they do 3 shot groups.

I've actually seen people show a target with 5 or 10 shots of which there will be a cluster of 3 shots that are close together and measure those 3 shots and say that's what there gun is capable of.
Three shots gives you an indication...5 shots is a much truer showing of what you and your rifle can to...and there aren't many .22WMR that will consistently put 5 shots under an inch...very few.

Agreed.

OMG bobtodrick, that is just what I don't want to happen to my post. Thanks to all of you for your input. I have purchased about $200 of the ammo you all suggested and can't wait to get testing. Thanks for staying on topic and for the great info.

Moe, for all out accuracy at 50yds (even 100) on a windless day the 'lowly' .22LR is capable of being more accurate than the .22WMR.
What I bought the WinMag for is it's carrying power...it maintains that 1.5MAO a lot further out than a .22LR.
Shooting 8" steel plates at 300m is a real test of skill with the WinMag, but is definitely do-able and really tests your ability to read wind and trajectory.
With your rifle/scope combo you should have great fun.

Got to spend 4 hours at the range today to do some serious testing. I bought all the ammo you folks suggested and though it was expensive to do so I did have fun and did feel I found good results and some supprises. The day was sunny bright so I put the sun shade on the scope. It was +10 and very light wind barely noticed on my cheek. The distance for all the groups was 50m as the 100m firing points were all used. All groups measured in inches. Each group was 5rds. Each type was shot at least 2 groups and sometimes up to 6 groups. First biggest suprise was the Hornady 30gr Vmax was shooting 1.20" to 1.4" . Next big supprise was a round I picked up just because I was curious. Hornady critical defence 45gr 0.6" to 0.7" . Federal 50gr 1.1" to 1.4" Remington 33gr accutip 0.7" to 0.8" . CCI 30gr HP+V 1.0" to 1.15" CCI 40gr HP 0.3 to 0.7 did about 15 groups of this averaging 0.45" between me and a few buddies. Then the best of the day was CCI 40gr TMJ at 0.24" to 0.26" Once all this was looked at this evening over some beers with my best friend we came to the conclusion that the lighter rounds were affected greatly by the barely detectable wind. With the exception of the Federal 50gr which we didn't expect any maricles from anyway. To confirm my wind theory i might get over to an indoor range soon to see how that goes but for now it looks lile CCI for me. The HP did not quite shoot as good as the TMJ but were considerable more money and not that I am hunting much anymore TMJ would not be an option.
