Your most successful deer hunting techniques?

I get up before first light, have a dump, make a cup of coffee and then go lay down on the patio. As the light comes up, the herds are all out on the alfalfa fields, select suitable animal and dispatch.

Collect with tractor, hang from grapples and dress. Feed chickens and dogs the yummy bits.

Hitting them with a pickup works fine. Use a truck u don't much care for not your pride and joy. It hurts to watch it get hauled away on a flatbed. Trust me it happened to me lastnight

My technique last year involved sitting on a log for a drink and a smoke before calling it a day, and having a buck walk out 20 yards in front of me and stare at me as I raised the rifle. Hope every year requires that much effort

Best technique i have found is to scout and pattern before hunting season even starts (min of 1 month), once you have the pattern the deer are following you set up in a location with the wind in your favour at the appropriate time, the deer will come right to you.

The best for me is a tree stand with apples as bait. The only year this didn't work for me was last year, I had a buck coming to the apples but he was just too small. The years where does appear at the apples are the best, they are great buck magnets.
The biggest deer I ever shot was accomplished with still hunting but still hunting hasn't been as successfully as stand hunting for me. Another benefit of stand hunting is the ability to watch the interactions between the deer, it is fascinating. Two years ago I had 3 does in front of my stand browsing peacefully. Suddenly they went on alert and started staring in the same direction, I thought another hunter must be around. They took off running and then the object of their attention appeared, he a good sized 5 point buck. I watched this buck literally chase these does around my stand for 5 minutes.

I tried apples as a side dish also one year, the buggers didn't touch em, the bears on the other hand enjoyed them thoroughly.

But I now have a secret recipe for them. ;)

Secret recipe eh? Please share, I promise I won't won't tell anybody! ;)

I don't know if this is part of your recipe but other guys around here say cracked corn works also, either with or without the apples.

I agree that if you bait with apples in an area where apples don't exist naturally the results are poor. My secret stand location that I have luck with is near an old orchard. I tried apples in heavily wooded areas away from any habitation and have had less than stellar results also.

1. Find a deer

2. Walk up to it very slowly, being as quiet as you can, not going in a straight line, but stopping every once in a while for a pause or to look in some other direction. Let it see you coming but act like you're not really interested in it.

3. Keep this up till you're at about 50 yards. Any closer than this and it will probably bolt. I think this is a good distance to make a shot from a standing position.

4. Wait till it turns broadside to you so you get a perfect shot.

So basically what I'm saying is just walk up to it and shoot it.

Truth be told I've only gone hunting once. But this worked just fine. I plan on doing alot more hunting in the future.

There's a big ol buck that comes into the backyard where I live all the time and that thing just gets bolder and bolder. Him and a doe go into the neighbor's yard to eat the feed left out there for her animals.

The buck has stared me down a few times at a distance of about 25 feet. To be honest I'm a bit afraid of it. If it were legal to hunt in my backyard getting a good shot wouldn't be an issue.

And next you'll want my GPS coordinates!! :p

If somebody wants to know what my formula is they have to ask nice, but doubt it will work everywhere. It's nothing fantastic actually.

I'm no expert just know that it works for me.

Are you sure you weren't hunting in a petting zoo or a provincial park? There aren't too many deer around where I've been hunting for the past 25 yrs that will let you walk up to them and shoot them. Any deer that stupid were killed off years ago before they could reproduce.
EDIT: Just watched your video I guess it's possible after all!!
